Thomas Hibbs at NRO has an article on The enduring significance of A Canticle for Leibowitz. As a SF fan I still can’t believe I never read this great book until earlier this year.

Canticle is truly a wonderful book. I have read it several times. Unfortunately, Miller wrote a less than wonderful sequel sometime around 1990.
Although my dh prefers to read math books for pleasure, he does highly recommend this book. Actually, he’s been trying to get me to read it even before we got married and I still haven’t read it.
A very good read, I’ll have to get another copy.
Great book! My older brother had to read it in college and it was one of the few books he didn’t sell back. When I was old enough, he made me read it, too.

Yes. I heard he went off the deep end. Refuting the Catholicism that energized his first book.
Have not seen Jericho. Is it lame?
Our vicar used Leibowitz as one of the books in his Catholic Literature class for homeschooled high schoolers – some light reading compared with Interior Castle!
If you liked it, you may enjoy a similar book called A Case of Conscience. It’s another Catholic SF kind of book.
