A Tustin woman told police the nearly 5-foot statue taken from Our Lady Queen of Angels turned up in her yard, according to Newport Beach police Lt. Craig Fox.
The statue by Mexican artist Victor Salmones was valued at $30,000, police said.
The woman, who police did not name, told police she noticed it when she came home after being away for the weekend and had some suspicions about it, Fox said. She called police this morning after seeing a photograph of it in a newspaper, Fox said. [article]
After she saw an article she called police? I guess up to that point she just put it off to benevolent five foot bronze sculpture of Mary front lawn droppers.

Maybe she thought it was a miracle….
To be completely fair, if something like that happened at my house I doubt the first thing I would do would be to call the police. I would have thought it was a prank or something. And I certainly wouldn’t be in any hurry to get rid of such an awesome yard decoration!
Darn, all that gets dropped in my yard are beer cans.
Out of curiosity, I ran PreertGaf’s comment through Babelfish.
“It is excellently written. Positive certainly is not sufficient, but it read during one respiration”
I need a life…
Well, if I didn’t know any better and the same thing happened to me, I would probably set the statue up in my own front yard!

I saw the story on the news yesterday, and it had supposedly had to do with a beer party, some of her son’s friends with an odd sense of humor, and a son who didn’t ask too many questions. Now if only I could remember what channel it was….
Anyway, depending on how interested she is in religious art, I suppose it’s possible she thought it to be a gift or prank of sorts. Why can’t I have a cool statue like that? Or even better, Our Lady of Succor with the mace to smite heresies.
Maybe she thought the statue of St. Joseph she buried in her yard finally germinated.

Gee, YA THINK???
I now need to found a men’s lodge or apostolic society, just so I can name it The Benevolent Five Foot Bronze Sculpture of Mary Front Lawn Droppers.
