“The murder of Doctor George Tiller is an abhorrent act of violence, and his family is in our thoughts and prayers at this tragic moment. Federal law enforcement is coordinating with local law enforcement officials in Kansas on the investigation of this crime, and I have directed the United States Marshals Service to offer protection to other appropriate people and facilities around the nation. The Department of Justice will work to bring the perpetrator of this crime to justice. As a precautionary measure, we will also take appropriate steps to help prevent any related acts of violence from occurring.
Yet it is a abhorrent act of violence,. Now imagine if George Bush in the wake of the Seattle Synagogue shootings has ordered U.S. Marshals to cover all Synagogues. The media would certainly have seen this as a wild overreaction. In that case a single Muslim had done the atrocity and people credited as a lone incident and not that we would see Muslims across the county suddenly attacking Synagogues. But this is exactly what the Obama administration has done. “Related acts of violence” obviously means we can expect those murderous crazy pro-lifers to be taking up target practice against abortion doctors.
I tweeted earlier that it would take no time at all before they initiated plans against pro-lifers and surely this is just the start. For them this killing which has been condemned by every pro-life groups gives them carte blanche for even more onerous protections surround aborturaries. Already our rights our violated by bubble zones which would occur around any other source for demonstrations. They have their excuse now am I am afraid things our going to get much worse in regards to our freedom to protest the murder of innocents. I hope I am wrong and overreacting myself. But this act by the Attorney General scares me in how imprudent it is. The idea that this goes beyond one kook is ridiculous. Though for them abortion is the most sacred thing there is and must be protected at the cost of “freedoms.”
In the aftermath of 911 people went out of their way to not blame every Muslim. But you can bet pro-lifers will not be treated as such by the media. They won’t mind profiling the Hell out of pro-lifers. We are all guilty by association in their eyes. Remember before they wanted to come after us with laws used to fight organized crime and went after pro-life hero Joe Scheidler for years under the Clinton administration. Be prepared for the coming persecution. I pray I am totally wrong.

Given that said restrictions mean that yet MORE will be killed, BillyHW, I’d say it’s worth being upset about.
I wonder will the Justice department be offering US Marshalls to pro-life groups who are afraid of retaliatory attacks?
Probably not.
Keep a close watch on your comments section. As Red Cardigan noted, the trolls are really coming out from under the rocks for this one.
As unfortunate as the wrongful killing of Tiller was, it should not be described as tragic. In a civilized society this man would have been considered a mass murderer. But since our government blessed his actions through a bogus law, they will now proclaim him a saint who was denied the right to live!
A murderer was murdered. Sad. But if you live by the sword of violence, then be prepared to die by it. Sad but true.
As unfortunate as the wrongful killing of Tiller was, it should not be described as tragic.
A man died, presumably in mortal sin, being deprived the opportunity to repent for his actions. How is that not tragic?
Of course I’m not defending Tiller, but he stands in need of salvation just like every one of us. Greater abortion proponents than he have repented and worked for life.
This murder was a denial that the Holy Spirit can change hearts. On Pentecost, no less.
Time to get Cenacles for Life (http://www.cenaclesoflife.org/) going in your parish if there isn’t already one going. We’re going to need all the spiritual protection we can get because the government isn’t willing to provide equal protection for us all.
Jeff:
Please consider a public appeal to MAKE CLEAR to the White House and the world HOW outrageously OFFENDING TO US, HUNDREDS OF PEACEFUL PRO-LIFE GROUPS world wide, are the following words of his, implying that somehow we tolerate or endorse violent murderers among us, and to meditate DEEPLY (is he capable?) in the cold blooded murder HE ENDORSES stating: “We (democrats) are going to reduce abortions” BY (sic) industrializing embryos, and multiplying by eleven the genocide budget of PPs chambers going full steam, plus attacking the México Accord not to export taxpayers murderous $$$$$$$$$ to other (vulnerable) countries, like mine.
HIS WORDS by France Press:WASHINGTON (AFP) — President Barack Obama expressed outrage on Sunday at the fatal shooting of a controversial Kansas doctor who performed late-term abortions, in a statement released by the White House.”I am shocked and outraged by the murder of Dr George Tiller as he attended church services this morning,” said Obama. “However profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence.”
It’s already started, I’m afraid. Read this WorldNetDaily article:

This quote leaves me completely flabbergasted:
Kansas City Star editorial page columnist Yael T. Abouhalkah writes, “The outspoken leaders of anti-abortion groups can save their feeble ‘we’re shocked and saddened’ statements. They are privately pleased at George Tiller’s murder on Sunday.”
So now Abouhalkah is a mind-reader?
This whole thing is senseless, and is made even more so by the fact that Holder ordered security increased at abortion clinics, even though this incident occurred in a Church. You’d think that if any federal protection was in fact warranted – and it is not! – it would be for those places akin to the one where the violence took place to begin with.
As deplorable and beyond the pale as Tiller’s murder is, I can’t help but note the irony that he died in the act of making a mockery of the Christian faith: presenting himself as a God-fearing family man and pillar of the Church community on Sunday even as he tirelessly worked to destroy God’s most precious creatures every other day of the week.
We can only pray that Tiller himself noted the irony, and that this led to genuine remorse for his behavior before death took him. We must truly hope for this, that God will show mercy upon his soul.
As for the Obama administration’s response, I’ve long suspected that he was looking for a convenient excuse to crack down on pro-life activities. I imagine that for the next few months anything that can be construed as an instance of pro-life aggression – no matter how small – will be blown out of proportion to portray all pro-lifers as religious zealots and potential domestic terrorists. I do expect things to get much, much worse for the pro-life movement and for advocates of traditional morality in general unless people come to their senses and realize the scope of the evil being perpetrated by those they elected to run this country.
In response to Andy: Tiller was in church and if that wasn’t enough to make him penitent what is? His death is not tragic; what’s tragic is that thousands of babies were murdered without mercy. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall be shown mercy. What about the babies who never were baptized? My sympathy is not with the murderer but with the murdered.
Marguerite,
I suggest you read your own comment, but instead of applying it to Tiller, apply it to the man who killed him. Indeed, blessed are the merciful.
I pray that Tiller receives God’s infinite mercy. Not one of us deserves that mercy, but don’t we all need it?
Surely we’re not hoping for a man’s eternal damnation.
We receive infinite mercy from God when we ADMIT we have offended him and ask him for forgiveness. Tiller’s going to church was a delusional act of a man gone mad. Did he think he could have it both ways?
Tiller’s friend and fellow abortionist Dr. Warren Hern spoke up, and his statement leaves a lot of questions. He performs abortions but advises students to steer clear: “No reasonable person would do this.” So why does he continue performing them?

I hope that in the split-second before he actually died, Tiller was given a chance to repent and did so.
