I suspected that a Cardinal Mahony blog would turn out to be fake or a parody. But this blog rings authentic to me. After all only he could blog favorably about the L. A. Cathedral.
Though I must admit licking the tack he took on the new Roman Missal.
Since the 1974 version was translated in haste, there were many errors in the translation which rendered the Missal inaccurate in many places.

Logic question: How could Bishop Tobin, by writing a private letter in 2007, escalate a public dispute that began in October 2009?
Yes not only can Bishop Tobin time travel, but he must also have other powers. For example his powers include making Rep Kennedy reveal the letter at the proper time and making him keep bring up the dispute.
Funny how the media has framed this “conflict” exactly backwards. Bishop Tobin has been working behind the scenes in regards to Rep. Kennedy and his public statements have always been in response to Rep. Kennedy.
Rep. Kennedy has been masterful at plucking the strings of the media. He knows exactly how to get media attention. Plus when it starts to die down he plays the trump by telling about a Jan 2007 letter he relieved from the Bishop. He knows the so-called Communion wars are tasty bits for the MSM and that they would tie this “interference” into the health care debate. Well played Rep. Kennedy.

So of course Notre Dame invites Cardinal Mahony to speak on.

Now I realize the both/and aspect in that there is both a priesthood of the faithful and the ministerial priesthood. But I do have to wonder if Cardinal Mahony understands these differences considering how he has run his archdiocese. The Pope emphasized that emphasizing that the shortage cannot be solved by having lay people substitute for the clergy and that we much not accept the current situation of the priestly shortage as being acceptable. Though if you hear Cardinal Mahony speak on Pastoral Associates you don’t exactly hear a connection to the Pope on this since he calls laity managing parishes “A great blessing for the Church”. You might wonder why a man should discern a vocation to the priesthood if pastoral associates are such a great blessing to the Church?
Though so much of the progressive camp in the Church seems to be involved in answering to vocation suppression. God has not reduced the number of vocations, it is the number of men who are not discerning their call that is the problem. Confusing the laity with the priesthood in some interchangeable way suppresses the ability to hear that call. Just as equating nuns with just doing social work helps to suppress those who have a call to the convent or monastery.

In other news the USCCB has been pretty good on promoting the Year for Priests. The Canadian Bishop’s conference is another story. No mention of it at all on their site. I couldn’t find any references to it and search turned up nothing. Oh well I guess the Canadians have so many priests that they don’t want any more.
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — President Barack Obama has named Douglas Kmiec, the Pepperdine University law professor who has become a key impediment to pro-life Catholics as the ambassador to Malta. The move is sure to spark opposition in Catholic circles given Malta’s strongly pro-life stance.
Kmiec became the main Catholic cheerleader for the Obama campaign during the 2008 presidential election and his ringing endorsements of the aggressive abortion advocate drew scorn nationwide.
Kmiec has continued defending Obama despite his moves to force taxpayers to fund both abortions and embryonic stem cell research that destroys human life. And he has come to the defense of Office of Legal Counsel nominee Dawn Johnson, who has compared pregnancy to slavery and is a former lawyer for a pro-abortion group.
He was denied communion last year during a meeting of Catholic business leaders because of his endorsement and repeated campaigning for Obama.
Obama will nominate Kmiec as the ambassador to the Catholic country that is a small Mediterranean island just south of Italy. The decision requires approval from the Senate, which is expected even though his defense of Obama’s pro-abortion views may cost him some votes.[reference]
Hopefully Kmiec will learn something from this 98% Catholic country which does not have legalized abortion.

Someone else responded wondering if these Terminators say “Hasta la vista, baby” – rather appropriate in a twisted scary way.
These terminators disguised as doctors are much more murderous than those robots from the future. SkyNet dreams of being as efficient in killing off humans as the Culture of Death is. These terminator’s go after more than Sarah Connor’s and her son. They are rather open to just about anybody. Terminator robots come into present naked. Terminator doctors keep children from being born into the world naked. Though the biggest difference is that we must pray for these terminators.
More than 100,000 Britons have recently downloaded “certificates of de-baptism” from the Internet to renounce their Christian faith.
The initiative launched by a group called the National Secular Society (NSS) follows atheist campaigns here and elsewhere, including a London bus poster which triggered protests by proclaiming “There’s probably no God.”

Lame! If they want to do it right they need to do what Julian the Apostate did. He baptized himself in bull’s blood to be de-baptized. Sure that is just as inffective as an internet certificate, but it at least shows commitment.
