Catholic Diocese Orders Windows in Confessionals
How many people have actually been abused in a confessional? If this is
really a problem then I have some alternative solutions. (Warning: highly
sarcastic comments ahead)
1. We could put up two Sony Jumbotrons on each
side of the church. One showing the penitent and one showing the priest. We
could incorporate that digital blocking technology that automatically distorts
the persons features.
2. In the old television show “Get Smart” they use
to have a glass bubble that would lower over Max and the Chiefs head and block
eavesdropping. This way they could stand out in the open where everyone can see
them and not be overheard.
3. The priest could be outfitted in the
straight-jacket and mask as seen in “The silence of the lambs”.
This
seems to paint all of our priests with the same brush and sends the message that
we need to take every precaution to protect ourselves from our priests. As
others have commented, there must be some lawyer behind this.
