The German Evangelical Church is translating the bible using feminist language.
More than 50 translators are working on a new edition of the holy book.
They are rewriting passages which are seen to discriminate against women, and are also using “unbiased and just” language.
The term disciple is to be changed to “disciples and disciplesses” and forms of address such as Lord or Our Father are to be omitted.
The translation project will run to 10,000 copies printed by the Gueterslohe publishing house in 2004.

I’ve managed to find a copy of the editor’s notes on one prayer in the Gospel.
Our Father gender neutral person who might have a parenting
role,
Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy unspecific androgenesis name;
His/Her King/Queen-dom come, His/Her will
be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread material; and forgive us our trespasses,
Bread has traditionally been made by women enslaved in
a family supporting role.
as we forgive those who trespass against us (providing they did not use
male dominant terms).
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen Aperson
To have all prayers end in the male only term men makes
a lie of equality.

You know, given that we define males by their chromosomal composition (and before that, by their genitals), you might do well to let go of the idea of god as a male. Of course, I realize that’s hard to do…
…unless you have evidence God’s DNA is that of XY or perhaps he has a divine penis, your position is completely silly.
Andy, and what position might that be?
If you are referring to Christians using terms like Father and he to refer to the Godhead, and that we believe that God has revealed himself to us and shows us a relationship to him via those terms, then how am I silly to complain about other Christians who would not use those terms?
Mark Shea has often said scratch an atheist and find a fundamentalist. And if you really believe that Christians think that the Godhead itself is Male then you are ignorant of basic Christianity and that is truly silly.
I was thinking, Jeff, that since Christ, truly divine, took on a human nature, never to be separated from Him, and since that nature has been assumed into heaven perfectly united to His divinity, there to dwell forever in the oneness of the Trinity, we do have a ground for saying that there is some XY in God’s DNA. Somehow, though, I don’t think this will convince your sceptic.
You poor, deluded fool.
Thinking “person” is gender neutral.
Open your heart, and from now on use “perchild.”
But you’ve kept references to King/Queendom, an inherently oppressive form of governance. I suggest replacing with “Community of Justice.” 😉
People like Andy helped me along my conversion from atheism to Catholicism. All I had to do was read *Catholic* teaching about Catholicism to know that I could disregard the vast majority of secularist/humanist arguments against Catholicism because they are based on pure lies.
Where the hell did Andy learn that Catholics think God the Trinity is male? It angers and saddens me that someone like Andy, and many other anti-Catholics of all stripes, won’t use the Catechism. The Church put all its major beliefs into one convenient book! If you want to attack one of the beliefs, LOOK IT UP IN THE BOOK PLEASE.
Jeff, I reject your usage of oppressive terminology like “kingdom” or “queendom”. Such usage implies inherent inequality between peoples, and I reject it completely!
Oops… Tom beat me to the punch!
Must… read… more… closely!
I think it should be “androgynous”, not “androgenesis”.
