CROSSVILLE, Tenn. — Even a pope needs love.
Kamila Nosarzewski, 5, of Crossville, made her wish come true last month when she got to kiss Pope John Paul II on the lips and tell him she loved him, an event recorded on the front pages of two Rome newspapers.
”I never was a very religious man,” said Kamila’s father, Thomas, ”but this was the most amazing thing I have ever seen. It has changed my life. It is like a fulfillment.”
Thomas, Kamila and Thomas’ mother, Teresa Nosarzewski, wound up Dec. 3 in a receiving line at the Vatican for the pontiff, taking spaces left open at the last minute by the absence of three visiting diplomats. The Nosarzewski family had traveled to Rome while Kamila was visiting a specialist in Paris for her clubfoot.
When the family reached the front of the receiving line, Kamila found herself face-to-face with the head of the Roman Catholic Church. She reached out both arms as her dad lifted her up. The pope then reached out with both of his hands and took the child to his lap.

Beautiful.
Wow….what an amazing story.
thank you so much for sharing this story. i’ll never forget seeing Our Holy Father on telelvision in 1995, and just like Kamila in the article, I felt an incredible surge of love in my heart. my eyes were leaking tears of joy just watching this man on television (he was getting off a plane, not even speaking) and i knew i must be catholic!
How wonderful!
When we saw him at the papal audience on pilgrimage to Rome, I was standing by a good friend, but not a woman who is a weepy woman (unlike me!).
The first time we saw him, we were both in huge puddles. Something about that man. Holiness hits you hard.
This reminds me of the time my 3-year-old nephew met the Pope. Their picture ended up on the front page of European newspapers because the next day was the Pope’s birthday. Here’s the picture.
Christmas pictures
Of interest mainly to family members, photos from Christmas Eve are now up in the photo gallery. My favorite is the picture of my 14-month-old niece Chiara in her red
