From a FAQ on software called PocketChapel
Create your own special Christian altar on your Computer.
• Choose the looking and the furniture of your altar.
• Place flowers, holy objects and candles on your altar.
• Add your wishes to the altar candles.
• Use the altar to pray.
• See it as a sign of god on your Computer, which remembers you, that we all are a part of a bigger thing.
It’s an software altar for almost all Christian denominations.
I wonder if iconoclasts can choose a blank screen? Actually some of the screen shots in the Gallery Tour are rather nice. This is no substitute before praying before the Blessed Sacrament, but can be a nice reminder towards prayer.
As both a Catholic and a geek, this picture made me laugh. Pick up your USB stick daily and download me. I wonder if they had tested a combination USB stick and Holy Water font but had problems with it shorting out.
This software is available for both the Mac and PC and they have a free version for download. The free version quits automatically after ten minutes. This is much like the Apostles at the Garden of Gethsemane. Can you not stay with me for one hour?
I downloaded the free version to check it out. It appears to have a Gnostic interface. You have to have hidden knowledge to set the options. But after playing around with it I finally found the hidden options panel in the bottom right corner. This lets you change the look of the image and the altar. You can place additional crucifixes statues, flowers, and candles on the altar. One cool option is that you can set the image to appear that the lighting is from a flickering candle.
Now if only I could set options in my own prayer life. It would be nice to set contrition to maximum and distraction to zero at least once. It also would be nice if we could drag sins and faults to the Recycle Bin, oh wait, that is what we have confession for.

I, being both a Catholic and computer geek as well, rushed out to download this thing without reading your entire post. I too struggled to find the “options” tab, but thank God it’s actually there.
This software isn’t half bad, though. One minor problem: when you turn out the lights and have no candle, you still get a candle flicker. Now THAT, friends, is truly a miraculous altar.
The memory stick thing is truly hilarious, too.
“It’s a software altar for almost all Christian denominations.?” ?!?!?!? With the statue of Mary dwarfing all else, I sincerely doubt it! And, it is truly an ugly altar! I doubt any self-respecting high church person/denomination would be caught dead with this thing in their possession. I know I won’t!
Hey,
the idea about a software altar is really strange.
But think about this:
What’s more evil? This altar or the tons of blood you can splash with your installed 3D ego-shooter.
