Archbishop Chaput continues to inspire

He’s doing more than inspiring. He’s participating in the first real defense of a whole new era.

Catholics on the net have been watching this develop for several years now. We have been saying that the time will come when we will have to choose, take sides, make ourselves clear who we serve. That time is getting close.

Up to now, people have always been able to relativize conflicts between church teaching and permissive cultural/legal developments, like abortion, birth control, etc. But this one is prohibited by name in Scripture many times. We may have hit the end of the ability to relativize.

Anyone could see that this would eventually arrive. If not gay rights, then gay marriage; if not gay marriage, then sex with or marriage to minor children; if not marriage to children, marriage to animals, human experimentation, euthanasia, cloning for parts, etc etc etc.

It is well if this is the issue that breaks the stalemate. The farther we go into depravity, the nastier it will get. Not that it’s going to be pretty.
