PORTLAND, ORE. – Multnomah County board Chairwoman Diane Linn, who is facing a recall from opponents of gay marriage, has apologized for “mistakes” she’s made during her tenure.
During a county commission meeting Thursday, Linn admitted to “making some mistakes” when she approved the way the county began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples in March, which happened without public debate.

But she did stress that she doesn’t regret the decision that allowed gays to get married in the county, just the way it was handled.

By the picture I thought that this might be the same Diane Linn that I went to High School with in Portland, Or. I found a government web site with information about her and sure enough we did go to Washington High School (now closed down) together. We were in a couple different plays together in school and I had been over to her house once. I remember that she was very active in the student council. I also remember discussing the songs of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young with her; especially their more political songs like Ohio and Chicago. I was a typical seventies liberal wannabe Hippy in those days, like the majority of the people I knew growing up.

I was even slated to kiss her in a play once. We were doing a play our Drama teacher wrote called “Nostalgia” where we had short skits with everything from the Jitterbug to the moon landing. There was an old fashioned silent movie skit where she was the female kidnapped by the evil villain and then is saved by the hero and the scene ends in a kiss. I got the part of the hero, but I had really wanted to play the part of W.C. Fields in another skit. I had been imitating W.C. Fields since I was a kid and I greatly enjoyed his movies. To make a long story short, after our Drama teacher learned of this I ended up swapping parts and I got to play W.C. Fields instead. To which Dianne Linn was probably greatly thankful for not having to kiss a freshman.

Another interesting fact is that her page lists her as a Catholic and part of St. Philip Neri parish. No surprise that this church is also The Paulist Center in Portland. So sadly I guess Diane is yet another Catholic in political life that is in full support of same-sex marriage and is willing to do her part to make it happen.

This story came from KATU which is Portland’s ABC affiliate. My father use to work there as one of the hosts of Sinister Cinema which played horror films on Saturday Night. I even played a dead body one night with a DOA tag on my toe. He later worked there full time as a set designer and builder. Bill O’Reilly also use to work at KATU and my father told me a story about him. He said that Bill O’Reilly use to ask him if he would build him a bar in his house and that he would pay him for it. He refused a couple of times and finally told him that since he does this all day long he doesn’t want to do it in his off time. After that Mr. O’Reilly never talked to him again.

Update: One of my commenter’s noticed this in Dianne’s “about page” that she was executive director of Oregon NARAL. That saddens me even more that a Catholic is directly involved in one of the largest abortion advocacy groups.
