From an article in the NY Times about yesterday’s press conference with Pope Benedict XVI.
Ms. Macher said he was modest, not at all showy for a man of his position, with a dry sense of humor.
"Someone lost his dog and put up a sign: Has anyone seen this German Shepherd?" she recalled. "He came in and said, ‘No, no, it’s not me. I’m here.’ It was really funny – it surprised us. I think he is going to surprise us."
Also here is the text of the Pope’s homily today at his inauguration Mass.

anyone able to tell me where I can find the inauguration mass on-line: I had to miss it, one of these pathetic little sacrifices that hurt soooooooooooooooooo much . . .
I wanna know where I can find the text of the “Journalist Press Conference” online.
Adorable story, but should we trust it? I mean, how many dogs (let alone alsatians) populate Vatican City, and what are the chances of that particularly apt breed being among the lost?
In defense of thes German shepherd story, it was told by a woman who is identified as being the owner of a Bavarian-style restaurant in Germany. A restaurant’s a likely public place for such a “Lost” poster, and I figure that a Bavarian restaurant’s even more likely spot for such a sign.
To give the media some credit, the NY Times has done a decent job of showing us a fairer picture of BXVI.
PS to Curt Jester. How about an advertisement for “Papst Blue Ribbon” beer? BXVI’s old hometown is already marketing Papstbier, and America should have her own way to toast the new Pope. (Though that German shepherd article already mentioned that the Pope likes Franziskaner beer, which is available in the States, and is quite tasty, let me tell you. Especially the darker one, but that’s just me.)
