I think I have seen too many Chucky, Puppet Master, and assorted killer doll movies because my first thought when seeing this picture was not exactly pious.
WEST Hampstead sculptor Oliver Green is using his divine skills for charitable purposes. The enterprising 55-year-old, who lives in Spode Walk, is selling his bronze casts of Pope John Paul II on the internet. He said: "The money that is made goes to three charities: an orphanage, a children’s charity in Cambodia and a disabled children’s charity in Pattaya in Thailand." The statues cost £499.99. OK, let’s see if this comment gets in!
Well, I think his shirt is worse than the statue.
Oh, dear. I know of at least two schools which will very likely be given one of these, and which need the thousand dollars (it won’t come to less when shipping is figured in, I think) in cash so much more than a statue. Still, the man seems sincere and devout, and you have to like that he used to be a construction worker rather than having spent his life making offensive art installations. (The link doesn’t work. The real link is http://www.bronzeheaven.com/ )
By the way, what if your first uneasy impression had been true? Quite a few people would buy one and present it personally to their bishop.
