The third movie based on the "Left Behind? series of novels about Armageddon and the Second Coming of Christ is opening on 3,200 screens across the U.S. ? not one of them in a commercial theater.
Instead, "Left Behind: World at War? will be shown exclusively in churches. [Source]
Add that to another good reason to be Catholic. We might get poor catechesis and ho-hum homilies, but at least we are not subjected to the acting of Kirk Cameron.

Amen to that!
My freshman year of high school, we had to read the first book in the Left Behind series for English class (I won’t start in on how ridiculous this is (the books are very poorly written), because we’d be here all day). As a “special treat” when we finished the book, we watched the movie.
I’m pretty sure I’ve never been forced to sit through anything worse.
Thank God for small mercies.
Was this a public school in Florida, Layla?
It was a Presbyterian school in Tennessee.
In their defense, in English IV we read The Man Who Was Thursday and The Great Divorce, but English I was truly awful.
THE GREAT DIVORCE was a good choice. I’m not familiar with THE MAN WHO WAS THURSDAY.
Lynn,
The Man who was Thursday is one of Chesterton’s great stories and is a real fun read. Besides it is freely available on the web.
Thanks, Jeff! Don’t know how I missed this one; I love Chesterton. Will go check it out.
The Man Who Was Thursday was written very early in Chesterton’s career, even before his formal conversion to Christianity. From the very beginning of the story, you can see the conflict between creed and agnosticism. Just remember that agnosticism is spiritual anarchism.
Good point, Jeff. Thanks for the info. I am reading it online!
Thank God!
When did they make the first one??? Boy, I go left beh…..Nah….I’m not gonna say it….
Which recalls Rod Dreher’s brilliant review of the first film, from NRO: http://www.nationalreview.com/comment/comment020601b.shtml
It’s one of those classic reviews that make mincemeat of out the subject in such a merry way that even people who have never seen or read the book/film will enjoy the review.
If you haven’t read this review yet, it’s a real treat.
I’m just here to comment on the comment verification! I was just getting ready to smack somebody and start shouting, “MY KEYBOARD DOESN’T HAVE GREEK CHARACTERS!” when I saw that it was just a joke. Phew…. 🙂
Ok, I have read every book in the Left Behind series. Why??? My husband (now a Catholic) has a mother and sister who comment on how Catholics have missed the boat, and will be left behind. The book is very anti Catholic. By reading them I could comment on how the writer was out in left field when it came to the Catholic Church with my inlaws. I found the book entertaining at times, but so completely off the mark most of the time. Not that I have a clue as to what will happen in the end. But I would say if anyone wanted to read something that was from a Catholic’s view of the final days to read Bud McFarland’s (?) book, Pierced by a Sword. Again not the greatest writer, but much better than Tim Lahaye.
Does anyone else besides me, when reading about this Left Behind business, hear Spinal Tap’s “Big Bottom” song?
…how can I leave this beh-i-i-i-i-nd!
Maybe it’s just me.
