I am not sure why there has been a lot of attention paid to a Scottish Catholic school (state run) where the 75% of Muslim students want to change it to a Muslim school? [Via Amy Welborn]
After all secularists have been successfully doing this for years with nary a complaint.
In another story an Iraqi Muslim has been made the head girl of a Catholic school in India.

Head girl! Head girl!
Not headmaster or headmistress (principal), just the president of her gender’s half of the student body (except as an appointed office, with more police powers).
The “head girl” and “head boy” in British schools also have “prefects” (sorta like hall monitors with more police power) under them as assistants.
This is a plot point in the Harry Potter books. IIRC, Percy Weasley was head boy or head prefect or whatever they were calling it.
Yes, Percy was Head Boy. There’s rather a convention, in English boarding-school fiction, of making the Head Boy out to be an insufferable stuffed-shirt, and the Head Girl one of these pain-in-the-neck females who think it their business to inquire into everyone’s concerns, a sort of fascistic Little Mother. Hillary would have been a classic fictional Head Girl.
What do you suppose would happen if a bunch of Christian parents sent enough of their children to a madrasah to make the Christian presence the majority, and then insisted that the madrasah be converted from Muslim to Christian because it was inappropriate for Christians to be “roped into” Muslim observances? (Well, yes, but I mean aside from the bloodshed.)
But actually, hasn’t this happened before, with Catholic schools and colleges taking down crucifixes to avoid “offending” non-Catholics? Spine transplants, anyone?
Hmm…well, where does one begin?!? Why don’t they just start their own school and send their kids there instead???
What struck me about it was that the Muslims were saying it “would be a fantastic example of good faith… on the part of the Church”.
It seems to me that it’s Muslims who need to be finding opportunities to make gestures of “good faith”, given all the Islamic violence and vitriol being let loose in the world just now.
In NZ too.

The Dark Side of Public Sectarian Schools
One of the key goals of the Religious Right in America today is to reinsert religious faith, prayer, and other sectarian sundries in public schools. Fortunately, religious freedom is sufficiently ingrained as a value here that they can’t go flat out …
Did Amy Welborne check with Mark Shea first before she printed it? Usually Mr Obnoxious enters her blog and starts demanding that she delete and ban anyone who disagrees with his wolf in sheeps clothing brand of Catholicism
