Today being the feast day of St. Edmund Campion the English Jesuit Martyr my mind spiraled off to a strange connection to a couple of Queen songs. Now St. Campion didn’t exactly fair to well under his Queen though. The first song I thought of by just removing one letter from the lyrics can make it almost an ode to the harsh life of St. Edmund Campion.
I’ve paid my dues –
Time after time –
I’ve done my sentence
But committed no crime –
And bad mistakes
I’ve made a few
I’ve had my share of sand kicked in my face –
But I’ve come through
We are the Campions – my friends
And we’ll keep on fighting – till the end –
We are the Campions –
We are the Campions
No time for losers
‘Cause we are the Campions – of the world –
I’ve taken my bows
And my curtain calls –
You brought me fame and fortune and everything that goes with it
–
I thank you all –
But it’s been no bed of roses
No pleasure cruise –
I consider it a challenge before the whole human race –
And I ain’t gonna lose –
We are the Campions – my friends
And we’ll keep on fighting – till the end –
We are the Campions –
We are the Campions
No time for losers
‘Cause we are the Campions – of the world –
The other song is tied to one of the tortures he received. "We will Rack You."

St. Edmund lived many years in Jesuit College here in Prague. He was even highly appreciated among anglicans, because anglicans bishops and professors spent whole month by persuading to convert back to anglicanism. Shortly before his execution he told:”I’m praying for my queen Elizabeth”.
He was very intelligent professor and so one Oxford college is named after him.
