Pope Benedict XVI, left, and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I appear at a balcony of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to bless the faithful, respectively in Latin and Greek, after attending together the Divine Liturgy in the nearby Church of St. George in Istanbul, Turkey, Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006. I love this picture! The reunification of the Catholic and Orthodox Church is something I pray I will get to see happen during my lifetime.
I also love His All-Holiness’ staff. JOHN 3:14!!
I love Papa Bennie and all, but I gotta say, Bart the First is a pretty snappy dresser. Check out that miter! And that sleeve!
I wish the Popes still wore the Papal Tiara (would be a fitting match next to Bartholomew). Thanks a lot Paul VI.. *sigh*
The tiara would be cool. Interesting how, in Eastern cultures, they value thinkgs like that. You don’t see all the egalitarianism that Western “culture” (or lack thereof) exhibits.
