A reader in reference to a post on a true renovation of one parish wrote to tell me me about a new church being built, St. John Neumann Parish in Farragut, TN. The present church is also the site of the site for Knoxville’s indult Mass.
There are pictures available here of the construction as it is done and it certainly looks like a quite promising cruciform style church.

The same architect did Our Lady of Walsingham in Texas. Google that for some serious eye candy.
Ethan Anthony’s firm does some good work, just about the best when it comes to Gothic. But look at that plan! Enter past the cry room down a narrow hall? Flushing toilets essentially within the body of the church only inches away from the main entry hall? This church still needs some serious work.
We cannot get any additional loans from the Diocese to fund any more buildings, so the administrative hall will be paid upfront with cash.
This is refreshingly different from my grandparents’ parish who used the diocesan funds to build a very expensive parish hall and may eventually get the money to build the church. Meanwhile, they have Mass in the hall.
Some things you can’t make up.
A far cry from St. John Neumann in Merrimack, NH. Check this out… http://www.sjnrcc.org/. If you watch the video on the web page you would notice that the altar is actually off center, yes thats correct, off center so that the importance of the “equality” of the liturgy of the word and the Eucharist, can be balanced. Such garbage, I’m ashamed that this is in my diocese.
My fortunate friend Lydia has just moved to this parish, and is loving every minute of it!
The ladies of the parish of Our Lady of Walsingham in Houston made all the vestments. They are beautfiul and traditional. They have a black set for Requiems and a rose set for Mothering Sunday in Lent. Solemn High Mass with Celebrant, Deacon and sub-deacon on Sundays and Major Feasts. The altar is a copy of the one in the original shrine church in England and is against the wall. People kneel to receive Communion.
