Italian police officers detain an unidentified man a few minutes after Pope Benedict XVI left St. Mary Major Basilica where he celebrated the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, in Rome, Thursday, June 7, 2007. The man started shouting and tried to enter the locked basilica. When some in the crowd began calling for police, officers quickly arrived and grabbed the muscular-looking man. Rome police said they did not immediately have any information on the details. (AP Photo/Pier Paolo Cito)
The shouted words heard by the crowd were “I must stop the Motu Proprio!”

That looks like Mike Piazza!
LOL! He does 🙂
Um, is this whole thing a joke, Jeff, or just the last line?
We must not let the liberal Catholics get ahold of the presidency….what the might try to do to B16

Joanne, I think the last line is a joke. If you click the photo, the Yahoo caption is what Jeff has copied, but they don’t include the last line. (:
Given the quote, one could surmise that he is a member of ICEL’s lower-level staff.
Kindda looks like Mister Augustinus of The Cafeteria Is Closed blog. You sure he wasn’t yelling: “I must get the Motu Proprio”?
Perhaps he was trying to stop BXVI from meeting with Bush…
Wait, I recognize that guy. It’s Cardinal Roger Mahony of Los Angeles in a face mask seeking more autonomy. He should seek absolution instead.
I guess Piazza ran off to Rome because he heard that Roger Clemens was returning to the Yankees.
“He’s coming back just so he can bean me again! I invoke the Right of Sanctuary!”
Jeff,
Great Caption!
There’s something scary about those wild eyes and bright white teeth. Jeff, don’t you want to shrink that photo, or s’thing?
well, i hope it was worth his 15 minutes of fame.
If that was meant to be a joke, it wasn’t funny. Please pray for the Pope, motu proprio or not.
