The phony cloning ban (it redefines cloning as not occurring till implantation) has failed.
The bill failed, with 204 votes in favor and 213 against—a full 74 votes short of the margin needed to pass.
Yuval Levin at NRO has the details on how thankfully Nancy Pelosi bungled this. Yeah Nancy!
One thing though that I find annoying in American politics right now is that all of the attention is on the immigration bill and hardly any coverage at all has been made of the House’s attempt to legalize human cloning in such a totally dishonest way. While I think the illegal immigration debate is important I think legislation trying to legalize the slaughter of countless human beings should have been the priority.
Update: In other news via Jill Stanek.
Today the House passed S. 5, the embryo destructive research bill, by a vote of 247-176, albeit with two more pro-life votes than in January, when the tally was 253-174. However, the change appeared due to absentees and deaths, not of heart.
President Bush will veto this one as he did its predecessor.

A law that forbids implantation of cloned embryos why allowing their cloning is simply demonic: it mandates murder.
Were it not for blog & maybe a couple of others, I would be oblivious. I don’t watch the news on t.v. that often & have been driving to/from work w/out the radio on.
