Gregory Popcak has an editorial in the L.A. Times that is a response to Gary Wills travesty of reason published last week on abortion. Greg has done a great job in writing an informative rebuttal to Wills that starts off rather funny but then makes some serious points that is a good overview of the Church and the issue of abortion.

Jeff,
That is simply a brilliant article by Gregory Popcak! Thanks for finding that rebuttal.
Tito
Thanks, Jeff.

Gary Wills just got schooled. What an embarrassment for a supposed history professor. And to think I went to his university and my tuition helped to pay for his drivel…
Excellent rebuttal against the nonsense spouted by the old fraud himself. Let’s hope that Wills finally retires his word processor and takes up with a smoking jacket and a few stiff drinks. And maybe Fr. Andrew “Potboiler” Greeley willjoin him.
Wow! There’s a lot to learn there! I had no idea about the witches and the contraceptives/abortifacients. And the contents of the Roman sewers! I hadn’t realized that abortion was not a modern invention…
Thanks, Jeff, (and Gregory!) for adding to the pro-life arsenal. Not that we should have to use such abstract info while babies are being slaughtered in the building in front of us, but you wouldn’t believe the sort of questions and arguments put to people who are simply standing or kneeling in prayerful defense of innocent children!
Brilliant. I’m spamming this on my blog.
Especially the dismantling of the Aquinas argument which I believe also appears as the Sixtus vs. Gregory non-argument, which even gets repeated on shows like CSI.
Thanks so much for this post — I’ve a PhD in early Christianity and I learned a few things.
Irenaeus,
I’ve got to ask, where did you study, are you teaching and can you recommend any good introductions to the topic?
I believe that Father Neuhaus once described GW as “always having to write new books to correct the errors in his old ones” or words to that effect.
GW is not a historian. He is a polemicist who prostitutes history to serve his agenda.
