Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — President Barack Obama has named Douglas Kmiec, the Pepperdine University law professor who has become a key impediment to pro-life Catholics as the ambassador to Malta. The move is sure to spark opposition in Catholic circles given Malta’s strongly pro-life stance.
Kmiec became the main Catholic cheerleader for the Obama campaign during the 2008 presidential election and his ringing endorsements of the aggressive abortion advocate drew scorn nationwide.
Kmiec has continued defending Obama despite his moves to force taxpayers to fund both abortions and embryonic stem cell research that destroys human life. And he has come to the defense of Office of Legal Counsel nominee Dawn Johnson, who has compared pregnancy to slavery and is a former lawyer for a pro-abortion group.
He was denied communion last year during a meeting of Catholic business leaders because of his endorsement and repeated campaigning for Obama.
Obama will nominate Kmiec as the ambassador to the Catholic country that is a small Mediterranean island just south of Italy. The decision requires approval from the Senate, which is expected even though his defense of Obama’s pro-abortion views may cost him some votes.[reference]
Hopefully Kmiec will learn something from this 98% Catholic country which does not have legalized abortion.

Finally we get to see the mess of pottage he sold his birthright for.
OK why cant the pope just come out and declare the reality. The Catholic church is in SCHISM. Its time to cut our ties with the “other” side. and make the schism official. Its time to prune the vine and let the 35% of us remaining continue on being the Catholic Church. Smaller but purer. The pope needs to send out an absoute utlimatum…. Cut them off and let the “american” Church implode on itself. We will survive smaller yet purer.
I wouldn’t consider this a plum for Kmiec. I see one of two possibilities: 1. The Maltese proffering the same welcome they did the Turk; or
2. Kmiec interfering in their anti-abortion policies and acting as a Trojan horse for the EU, WMF and his dark master in DC.
Seems to me Malta can also refuse him, no?
Paednoch – ever hear the parable of the Good Sheppard — he left the flock that was doing what it was supposed to do to find the one that strayed. I once heard it explained somewhere that we see pictures of Christ coming back to shepherd duties carrying the lamb on his shoulders. The reason he is carrying it is because the lamb got iself into trouble and has a broken leg, so the lamb is carried.
While those of us who are prolife might make up a smaller portion of the church, Christ suffered and died calling all the wayward back to repentance and eternal life. Remember St. Dismas who was crucified at the same time as Christ? There’s always hope (and the prayers of others for their conversion) until someone’s last breath.
April what you say sounds really wonderful in theory but what about the Faithful who are scandalised and are lost to the Faith because of the ‘pastoral approach’ towards those who dissent from the teachings of the Church? Who rescues them?
Our bishops have their most effective weapon in trying to save this man’s soul by the wake-up call of denying him the Eucharist. Few in the episcopate have the courage to address the spiritual peril of Kmiec and his cohorts.
Agree with Dark Knight: seems like a second siege of Malta. Not sure they’ll win this time.
In any case, Malta (pretty close to the center of the nowhere) seems just the place for the dissident, in-the-tank-for-obama, liberalism-is- my-true-religion academic (for you brilliant academics: that is an insult).
Barak mounts his throne to shouts of joy!
A blare of trumpets for The Won!
Horaay for the bishops who denied him the communion… doing otherwise would be endorsing his POV. And that’s all I can say without going full blast into what I REALLY think of the ….
Norah, I would bet cash money that you are as totally disgusted with all the things that go on as I am.
Catholics have a very serous duty to know their faith well and form their consciences accordingly to the true teaching of the faith and in this age of the internet, it isn’t hard to find authentic church teaching, i.e., if someone is a liberal/dissenter and you don’t like what you hear, it’s likely orthodox teaching and in any event, there’s always the Vatican website and EWTN.
What I stated before is biblical, Christ wants all of us. It’s also biblical that some devils cannot be removed without prayer AND fasting.
It’s also up to the faithful ones to get themselves into trouble in as many ways as possible by remaining faithful, correcting the ignorant, exposing the heresy, gauging the reaction of the priest when asked to bless a rosary to see if this is an imposition or old superstitious practice, offering website links for natural family planning and leaning heavily on that if properly used, it’s as good as the human pesticides and awful chemicals they are now taking, tell sister reikifingers her dabbling needs confessed as serious sin and that you are ashamed of her, etc., etc.
You have to be a gentle and compassionate agitator so people will at least politely listen instead of run away from you the first time they meet you, later, who knows? You can only plant the seeds, but you will likely still get flack for it. Anyway, remember how Christ did things? Well, we have to do that too where we can in as gentle a way as we can. As dear JPII said, “put out into the deep”.
