House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently told a group of both legal and illegal immigrants and their families that enforcement of existing immigration laws, as currently practiced, is “un-American.”
The speaker, condemning raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, referred to the immigrants she was addressing as “very, very patriotic.”
“Who in this country would not want to change a policy of kicking in doors in the middle of the night and sending a parent away from their families?” Pelosi told a mostly Hispanic gathering at St. Anthony’s Church in San Francisco.[reference]
This happened 10 days ago. Well glad she can speak for the human dignity of immigrants. Though I would disagree that enforcing our laws is un-American. I thought liberals hated people questioning others patriotism?
Though when it came to the unborn she voted to prevent the ban on partial birth abortion. What value system is that?
She called gay marriage ruling in California as ‘milestone’ What value system is that?
She was thrilled to be at signing of embryonic stem-call research executive order by President Obama. What value system is that?
She wanted to put contraception in to the Stimulus bill. What value system is that.
Whatever value system that is – it isn’t Catholic.

NOT a Catholic one that is for sure!
“Who in this country would not want to change a policy of kicking in doors in the middle of the night and sending a parent away from their families?”
And will the FBI now discontinue arresting criminals in the evening if they have children?
How come even though I “check the box” your comment option never remembers my name?
If enforcing immigration laws is “un-American”, who do you suppose should the Speaker of the House of Representatives go to in order to get the laws changed?
I suggest she look in the mirror. Or is she too gutless to try to eviscerate our immigration laws?
First, I have not heard about anyone from ICE kicking in the door in the middle of the night – that is a lie unless you include Elian Gonzales. But that was justified, since he had to be reunited w/ his father (of course).
Second, if you are part of the social justice crowd, such as those in the Maryland Catholic Conference, this is welcome news, since there are no such things as illegal aliens (although it is a legal term).
Interesting. One question–why is a secular politician allowed to speak on purely political topics in a Catholic church? I think there would be a bit of a hue and cry were a pro-life poltician to do the same.
In Christ,
Is that one of the stations of the cross on the wall behind her? As in, she was issuing that little diatribe in a Catholic Church?! I thought liberals believed in a strict separation of Church and State.
Oops. I guess “St. Anthony’s” should have been a big clue it was a Catholic Church.
Nancy Pelosi sure ‘aint Catholic’ either!
Are you listening, Archbishop of San Francisco? [can’t think of his name, much less spell it right] Do a ‘Becket’-EXCOMMUNICATE HER!
Same goes for Archbishop Wuerl in Washington!
I can see how it makes sense for immigration reform speaker (being Pelosi or not)to speak at a Catholic Church. After all some stats say that about 1/3-40% of all Catholics are Hispanic and growing as immigration does. I think it is a major concern for paishes in the U.S. After all it is their parish members that suffer from more and more from new immigration restrictions. That she is inconsistent on other issues that’s yet another problem. I don’t think immigration is purely secular at all.. I can’t imagine a political issue that somehow doesn’t affect the lives of real people.
There is an interesting article on the Hispanic Church:http://www.pbs.org/wnet/religionandethics/episodes/november-28-2008/us-hispanic-catholics/1482/
A few quotes from the interview from a friar there say–> “Q: What do you think are the most profound changes happening in the Catholic Church for Hispanics?
A: When I was growing up, we took it for granted if you were Hispanic or Latino, you were Catholic. If you were not, you were Protestant. It wasn’t until I went to high school that I realized that there was an Anglo-Catholic church and that they made the sign of the cross. They didn’t kiss their fingers like we do, but they made the sign of the cross, and they went to confession, and it was shocking. It was eye opening. I would like to think that somewhere on the other side of the country at the same time that I was learning that there were, you know, Anglo Catholics, that there was an Anglo Catholic learning that there were Latino Catholics, and that it was shocking and it was eye opening, and yet enriching. I think that the most profound change that we are making in the U.S. Catholic Church today is that we are awakening the U.S. Catholic Church to the realization that it is one part of a church that is so much larger than itself, and a church that is culturally diverse, and that that’s shocking, and it’s eye opening, and it’s enriching, and I do believe, you know, I mean, I hear it here. I hear it from the lay ministers who are coming to school here and who are asking questions about, you know, how to better serve the Hispanic. And one of the things that they’re realizing in our courses and in our classes and in our conversations is that the U.S. church is so much bigger than their own little parishes. And for them and for myself that’s exciting news, because it does really, really open us up to a worldwide universal church, which is the church that we really belong to. And sometimes we forget. We get so caught up in our own local concerns.”
Any catholic here who does not understand that when the Catholic Church fails to excommunicate a person who unjustly divorces their spouse it encourges the destruction of families, has no right at all to find fault with what Ms. Pelosi said.
No fault divorce is THE GATEWAY TO THE CATHOLIC ANNULMENT MILLS AND VERY, VERY FREQUENTLY ACTUALLY REMOVES A CHILD FROM THE CUSTODY OF A LOVING PARENT and destroyes them and the innocent parent. It is no different that kicking a door down to an illegal immigrant. What we are doing illegally is being faithful to our marriages while the Catholic Church bends over backwards to find nullity to justify our spouses adultery!
We cannot defend our marriages or our rights as parents or even as human beings and the Catholic Church accepts and encourages those who do this to us——————–our spouses and their lovers. This is the Gospel?
Which one?
This is very annoying. St. Anthony’s/Immaculate Conception was my parish church when I lived in San Francisco, and I can hardly imagine Father Flores inviting Pelosi to speak there. He is a good, solid, orthodox priest as far as I know.
Yes, Karl, we’ve heard your story, and it is indeed unjust. Please stop trolling Catholic websites trying to use your terrible experience as a stick to bash the church with. This is the 3rd site I’ve seen you on doing this.
