Remember when candidate Obama talked his foreign policy, of talking to others, of not dictating things. Well it looks like he will treat the enemies of our country better than Catholics and those who are pro-life.
US President Barack Obama has picked Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius to be his health secretary to carry out his ambitious healthcare reform program, the White House said.
A senior administration official told AFP Saturday that Sebelius had accepted the offer to serve as secretary of health and human services, a position Obama had first offered to former Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle, who withdrew over tax questions.
Obama will make the announcement Monday at the White House, the official said. [reference]
This a a slap in the face of all faithful Catholics. That a Catholic who has been told by her bishop not to present herself for Communion is the acceptable choice as Secretary of Health and Human Services. That a person with close ties to an abortionist “Killer” Tiller who makes other abortions seems like upstanding citizens. They knew all this and still went ahead. Surely he could have found someone without these problems – after all the Secretary of HHS does not have to be a pro-abortion Catholic – though it seems that way. This appointment means that he will dictate to us and will not consider what Catholics might think about this at all. If Catholics were a terrorist organization maybe he would treat us better. Of course we already knew how supportive of abortion he is. We suspected that all of his talk of being the president of the whole country was just empty rhetoric. No real surprises here. Though I wonder why I am so upset the total arrogance of this appointment? Well at least it is good news for Kansas, just bad news for the country.
Deacon Fournier notes:
It appears that the release of news was timed to occur on the same day that “Catholics United”, a group which works in concert with “Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good”, launched its new web site entitled “Catholics for Sebelius”. On that advocacy site this group stretches accuracy beyond anything they have done before. They argue that this Governor who has been told by her Bishop, Joseph Naumann, to refrain from presenting herself for Holy Communion until she takes “the necessary steps for amendment of her life which would include a public repudiation of her previous efforts and actions in support of laws and policies sanctioning abortion” is an acceptable choice for Catholics.
“Catholics for Sebelius”, I guess the Hell with obedience. Though at least Gov. Sebelius has the the sense not to present herself for Communion. These Democratic front groups pretending to be Catholic are a sickness of the type that so far only Bishop Chaput has denounced. But these groups have gotten more than their 30 pieces of silver from George Soros. John Podesta us to run the Soros-funded organization, Center for American Progress, and “admits that he works closely with Catholics in Alliance and Catholics United.” So again no surprise that President Obama’s Chief of Staff has close ties to this group and that there is coordination. So for the next four years we can expect plenty more insults and slaps to Catholics by the Obama administration.

Tom Daschle, who withdrew over tax questions.
Yeah, it was just plain old simple “questions” that caused him to withdraw. Nothing to see here folks, please move along. Mainstream media at work…
I went to see who the prominet supporters are ( the site). The fact is that if Kmiec is one of them. Sort od says more than any press release could.
I tried to ping a trackback, but wasn’t successful. Here’s the reference info:

God willing, this may be how God brings about a real conversion for Sebelius, and in her embracing the Truth wrapped up in her Catholic heritage, she will be in this position but she will be able to do good there!
And she may turn heads doing it.
And she may make a deep impression on Obama. It may kickstart his own journey to conversion.
God has done weirder, more bizarre things – He allowed His Son to be killed so that He could rise from the dead. Do we ever stop and think about how unlikely THAT was?
OK. So the conversions of the leaders of the US are pretty unlikely. But NOTHING is impossible to God. (Luke 1:37)
Your brothers and sisters in Christ down here in Australia are praying with you and for you.
MMMMMmmmm…. supporting outsourcing and NOT PAYING PEOPLE A LIVING WAGE IS JUST AS BAD.
Before we go on and on in our big bad “I am a better Catholic than you are CATHOLIC SLUMDOG MANUFACTURING EGO BECAUSE YOU SAY “Well I support bayyyyybeeees more than you do, fight for health insurance for families.”
Who do you think YOU ARE????? Insurance and helping families pay for it only becomes important when they stick it to you…
Sorry I bruised your Catholic ego…. let’s see what she does….
And another thing, I don’t care whether or not I am good enough for the Catholic blog roll. I have a sp director who told me to ROCK THE BOAT.
I go to confession once a month, sometimes 2x a month. I know God loves me.
But there are too many Catholic egos around.
I can’t wait to see what she does…. pray for good. St Francis said that
I kill (pun intended) time reading on the LIRR and subway. I once read a book on the OT. What struck me was the number of times the Israelites turned from the True God for earthly (they thought) benefits. They were constantly taking up idols of the indigenous population. One was M’L’CH: a fertility god that demanded infant sacrifice for good harvests. Today, CTHLC M’L’CH’s indirectly support mass murder of the unborn like the Israelites accepted among them infant sacrifices. I guess free lunch/socialism is equivalent to good harvests esoecially if you have three MA’s and you can’t afford health.
It seems CTHLC M’L’CH’s believe a few score millions of murdered unborn are a small price to pay get free lunch and to actualize their hatreds (real Christians hate, it’s in the Gospel of Marx) for Bush, racist America, the unjust capitalist system (must be destroyed: number one priority of the WH) and evil rich.
Re: the unjust capitalist system. You are going to love its replacement.
If I or my husband were dying in a hospital….and our Aetna or blue cross or whatever… refused to pay because we could not afford it, and you had the money.. Jesus would see you as guilty… of murder… just as bad as the abortionists.
Go to confession.
When not if the economy tanks even more, you are going to see a bigger number of people who cannot afford the doctor. It is going to go to crisis proportions. It will be worse than the banks tanking.
I suspect that Kansans already know what Sebelius will do as HHS Secretary. She has vetoed bill after bill that would regulate abortion procedures. Relevant vetoed bills include:
* SB 389 (2008), which authorized private law suits against providers of late-term abortion procedures. In her veto message, Sebelius stated that she worried that SB 389 might be unconstitutional, or endanger womens’ lives.
* SB 528 (2006), which required documented justification of late term abortions. In her veto message, Sebelius stated, “My Catholic faith teaches me that life is sacred. Personally, I believe abortion is wrong.”
* HB 2503 (2005), which would have required abortion clinics to be licensed and regulated. In her veto message, Sebelius said, “As governor, nothing is more important to me than the safety and good health of our citizens. Kansans must be assured when they receive care in a hospital or clinic that their providers meet high standards of safety and responsibility.”
* HB 2176 (2003), an earlier bill that also defined standards for abortion clinics and required clinics to be licensed and regulated.
Her veto statements sound really warm and fuzzy, but she’s done NOTHING to create laws to regulate abortion clinics, limit abortion. And there’s no doubt that her vetoes have benefited the business of Dr. George Tiller, a big Dem contributor and owner of a late-term abortion clinic in Wichita, KS (and 19-count defendant in ongoing criminal suits alleging illegal abortions).
It appears that Sebelius has been all about keeping KS abortion costs low and profits high.
Hope, change, mass brigandage!
Okay, lady! Now I see how Hitler got 87% of German vote in 1937. Been wondering about that for 50 years.
You and your old man ain’t going to Heaven until you die. Having (I assume) voted for Osama, you cannot be sure . . . you may go to hell. So, certainly you need to live as long as you possibly can!
Now, it’s Obama and the 52,000,000 thieves. Shaherizade seems like a piker.
If you or your husband could not pay the hospital bill (assuming the hospital is not shuttered from not being paid for treating illegals), first they will not throw you out. Second, they will treat you.
Or, you would be justified in robbing a bank to get the money to save your precious life.
I will go to Confession. Because you and three-quarters of the USCCB piss me off!
When God said “Choose life”, He didn’t mean choose your own security over the lives of the innocent and defenseless, I think. If you go to Confession 3X a day but you’re still supporting the killing of children in the womb, isn’t that an abuse of the sacrament?
“Crisis proportions”, Jeanne? What does the death of 50 million (and counting) children constitute if not a crisis?
As for the conversions of elected and appointed pro-abortion Catholics, we’re all praying, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. Why God would grant such conversions for the sake of people who, in the majority, defied Him and CHOSE the death of His tiniest children, I don’t know, since such conversion would seem to justify our own murderous disobedience. At the very least, by His Own Word, the answer to our prayers would require repentance for having chosen death in the first place.
“if my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
2 Chronicles 7:14
As to Jesus seeing someone who has money as guilty of murder because your health care coverage does not meet your needs, that’s quite a stretch, isn’t it? There’s a big difference between being personally responsible for an individual stranger’s health care and opting for a “comprehensive health care” policy that forces Americans to feed the abortion industry.
No matter how sick and hungry we become, we cannot “eat” our children.
I refuse to call anyone who is pro-choice or pro-abortion “Catholic.” End of story.
Sounds like a good policy, Andrew OP!! Maybe that refusal, if widespread, would wake up many pro-abortion, or “personally pro-life, but” persons who have been baptized Catholic. Maybe most of them actually do care enough to take notice and change when they are told by a priest or bishop that they are way out of line. (a bunch of them will just squawk about the “clueless patriarchy” though, and go right on calling themselves Catholic.)
This is the third Psalm from the Office of Readings for Tuesday Week I (and so appropriate to our days):
Psalm 12 (New International Version)
Psalm 12
For the director of music. According to sheminith . A psalm of David. [a]
1 Help, LORD, for the godly are no more;
the faithful have vanished from among men.
2 Everyone lies to his neighbor;
their flattering lips speak with deception.
3 May the LORD cut off all flattering lips
and every boastful tongue
4 that says, “We will triumph with our tongues;
we own our lips [b] —who is our master?”
5 “Because of the oppression of the weak
and the groaning of the needy,
I will now arise,” says the LORD.
“I will protect them from those who malign them.”
6 And the words of the LORD are flawless,
like silver refined in a furnace of clay,
purified seven times.
7 O LORD, you will keep us safe
and protect us from such people forever.
8 The wicked freely strut about
when what is vile is honored among men.

Abortion is death. and we cannot choose to take on some life issues, while ignoring others. You assume that we ignore one issue in favor of another. This just isn’t so.
I’m one of those many who need affordable health care. And I’m fighting for affordable health care that does not require me to turn my back on the pre-born, sick, disabled and elderly — because if we do nothing for them, health insurance and care will be nationalized, to the detriment of the most vulnerable of us.
If you don’t believe me, consider what’s going on right now:
* Sit down and actually read the health-related legislation that’s passed since Jan 20. Start with HR1, which enacts the HITECH Act to store electronic health records (EHR) for patients nationwide; “guide” physicians in treatment of individual patients; and impose penalties on physicians and entities that are not “meaningful EHR users” (and HHS has not yet defined that term). Electronic storage of medical data is a great way to improve the efficiency of storage and retrieval of clinical info — but the HITECH Act will use that data at the federal level to drive individual medical care in the doctor’s office.
* Consider the vigilance of pro-family US reps, who stripped from HR1 the text that would have extended Medicaid-funded family planning services to minors of any age without parental knowledge, based on the minor’s income (not the family income). Congress would have taken away parents’ rights to caring for their own childrens’ health needs.
* Read Tom Daschle’s book on the health care crisis, in which he proposed that “seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them”. Daschle could have been the HHS Secty, but for the protests against his nomination.
* Think about the dilemma of 2 cancer patients in Oregon who were denied Medicaid funding for further chemotherapy. These patients were on Medicaid because they could not afford personal health insurance. The state of Oregon denied them treatment that would extend their lives but would not cure them — and then offered to pay for their assisted suicide.
* Compare the stance of many Washington state hospitals and medical staff (who conscientiously object to euthanasia) with the intent of our President (who would refuse that same right to medical staff and hospitals who conscientiously object to performing abortions or offering abortifacient contraceptives).
Is abortion the ONLY THING THAT MATTERS? No. But if we do not defend the fundamental right to life at all stages, we ignore the very issue that underscores all other rights. Without preserving the right to life, there is no right to liberty, no right to the pursuit of happiness.
These are all part of the same plan. Fight it ALL!
As the tick-tock solution creeps up on them, our proportionalist Catholics (meaning those who think that a surplus of Orwellian gassing about social justice gives license to whistle past abortion) will more and more achieve rhetorical meltdown.
