I have come to believe that liberals have a a high irony deficiency. This kind of prove it.

Presidential Proclamation — National Day of Prayer, 2012NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER, 2012
– – – – – – –
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATIONPrayer has always been a part of the American story, and today countless Americans rely on prayer for comfort, direction, and strength, praying not only for themselves, but for their communities, their country, and the world.
On this National Day of Prayer, we give thanks for our democracy that respects the beliefs and protects the religious freedom of all people to pray, worship, or abstain according to the dictates of their conscience. Let us pray for all the citizens of our great Nation, particularly those who are sick, mourning, or without hope, and ask God for the sustenance to meet the challenges we face as a Nation. May we embrace the responsibility we have to each other, and rely on the better angels of our nature in service to one another. Let us be humble in our convictions, and courageous in our virtue. Let us pray for those who are suffering around the world, and let us be open to opportunities to ease that suffering.
Let us also pay tribute to the men and women of our Armed Forces who have answered our country’s call to serve with honor in the pursuit of peace. Our grateful Nation is humbled by the sacrifices made to protect and defend our security and freedom. Let us pray for the continued strength and safety of our service members and their families. While we pause to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice defending liberty, let us remember and lend our voices to the principles for which they fought — unity, human dignity, and the pursuit of justice.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim May 3, 2012, as a National Day of Prayer. I invite all citizens of our Nation, as their own faith directs them, to join me in giving thanks for the many blessings we enjoy, and I call upon individuals of all faiths to pray for guidance, grace, and protection for our great Nation as we address the challenges of our time.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this first day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-sixth.
Though maybe the worst thing is that the President probably really sees no appropriate parallels with his own actions. How about letting us abstain from being forced to pay for contraception, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs? Well two out of three ain’t bad since we are still allowed to pray and worship (for now), just not act on our conscience.

Well that’s the thing, you can’t really pick and choose like that and you know most health care plans already cover that stuff? Even ones used by Catholic organizations.
Odd that there was no complaints until now but I’m sure it has nothing to do with it being an election year and the GOP’s endless quest to scuttle the Democrat’s health care reform.
But let’s expand on this, as a Catholic you oppose the death penalty right? So do you mind your tax dollars going to support that?
Thanks God, for letting me abstain from prayer?!? Oh my…. Is that like the kids telling you that they aren’t talking to you?
Ummm… Salvage, you do know that many diocese are self-insured through places like Christian Brothers and they don’t offer contraceptives or sterilization coverage? And we do oppose the death penality for the unborn, that is true.
Thank you Jeff for posting this, it’s indeed ironic and hypocritic, it’s unfortunate that our leaders spin their words to the point that they disagree with themselves, ultimately in support of their seemingly personal agendas.
@Salvage, I find your attack on the Catholic church interesting. The post mentions nothing about the Catholic church. Further, the attack on life by the President and his administration is against all of Christianity, of which Catholics are a part of, along with our Evangelical and Protestant brothers and sisters.
The claims made are empty with no proof, and more to the point, who cares? My opinion hasn’t changed, but I do feel sorry for you, and I pray that you find peace, in regard to your apparent grudge against Catholics, as well as the anti-life agenda underway.
As to the death penalty, yes, I mind my tax dollars going to support that, God gives life, and God provides justice, the death penalty is unjustified in my opinion, let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
Pax Christi Vobiscum
(((Well that’s the thing, you can’t really pick and choose like that and you know most health care plans already cover that stuff? Even ones used by Catholic organizations.)))
Please don’t let me put words in your mouth but “IT” sounds to me salvage that you’re saying that as far as you’re concerned, “IT” is too late for all catholics who have NOW set UP a legal precedent in reality which should not be overturned by humans simply because for the fact that there are just too many gods who really don’t count cause none of them especially these so called catholic gods who are probably in your book the biggest cry babies of all and are creating a silly fuss and they should definitely not win cause their religion is no better than any other religion of these so called made UP GOD’s, I mean gods who really should all be ignored in the long run so in other words, these so called humans who believe this Christian Reality Annoying Preaching should all mind their own business and let the chips fall where they may cause these gods are all silly and that includes “Jesus The so called Christ and HIS Father who would send me to hell in the blink of an eye which makes them the meaness god. Right?
I better stop and wait for your reply before I say any more so I’ll close by saying that you might also be thinking that “IT” would be a good strategic move of quietly separating all religions which would certainly improve the US constitution in the long run! Right again?
I hear ya folks! Will the real GOD please stand UP and answer U>S (usual sinners) or should we just stop feeding the trolls and keep praying instead to this imaginary god of ours that salvage believes in?
Just asking Jack? 🙂
Peace
>@Salvage, I find your attack on the Catholic church interesting. The post mentions nothing about the Catholic church.
Are you telling me that the Bishops aren’t keen on the GOP? Pointing that out is an “attack” is it?
>Further, the attack on life by the President and his administration is against all of Christianity, of which Catholics are a part of, along with our Evangelical and Protestant brothers and sisters.
Ha! Ha! Yes! Obama attacks life! Because he is evil / secret Muslim. See its hyperbole like that that makes me think you don’t think about the issues but rather the political spin.
>The claims made are empty with no proof, and more to the point, who cares?
Awesome! It’s not true and even if it was it doesn’t matter!
> My opinion hasn’t changed, but I do feel sorry for you, and I pray that you find peace, in regard to your apparent grudge against Catholics, as well as the anti-life agenda underway.
I have no grudge against Catholics I do think their religion very silly (but I think that of all theism) and I think the Vatican actively protected child molesters for countless decades, I think that they have a corrupt bank that works with the Mafia, I think they helped spread disease in Africa by lying about condoms, I think they’re grotesque hypocrites for living in unimagined wealth while insisting they speak for Jesus who wasn’t at all keen on wealth. I think their history of the last 1700 years or so from the first “holy” wars to the crusades to the Reformation Wars to WWII and their partnership with Nazi Germany makes it clear that they’re nothing divine much less holy. Just an organization keen on keeping its wealth and power for its own sake.
Let me guess, these claims made are empty with no proof, and more to the point, who cares?
Hey how many poor people could be helped if the Vatican sold all their art work? Didn’t Jesus suggest something like that? Oh I know the business with the oil but we’re talking billions here, bit beyond foot ointment.
>As to the death penalty, yes, I mind my tax dollars going to support that, God gives life, and God provides justice, the death penalty is unjustified in my opinion, let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
And curiously I never here the caterwauling about it from Catholic organization who shriek about insurance companies and birth control pills. Seems that if pooled money is used for that it’s the complete destruction of your religion freedoms and if it’s used for the death penalty meh, what are you going to do?
I suspect your “pro-life” attitude begins and ends at the birth canal, once born your interest in life wanes to an apathetic indifference.
Or it’s more like the death penalty is politically popular with the GOP base as is anti-abortion action so you just ignore the dichotomy for the political correctness.
Salvage you are starting to repeat yourself.
So blandina maybe you can answer the points then if you are so familiar with them?
Just explain to me why Jesus said to be like him you have to be poor and that the Vatican has more money than some nations?
It’s weird how you guys pick and choose what bits of your religion you take seriously but get upset with for not taking any of it seriously.
At least I’m consistent is my point.
“I think their history of the last 1700 years or so from the first “holy” wars to the crusades to the Reformation Wars to WWII and their partnership with Nazi Germany makes it clear that they’re nothing divine much less holy.”
Wow. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen so much historical ignorance in one glob of text. I admire your efficiency.
Archbishop Sheen’s experience was that when anyone complained about the Church’s “Riches”, it usually turned out that they were guilty of some financial maleficence.
>Archbishop Sheen’s experience was that when anyone complained about the Church’s “Riches”,
Why do you have riches in quotation marks? The Vatican isn’t rich?
>it usually turned out that they were guilty of some financial maleficence.
Well I don’t think I was complaining more pointing out the grotesque hypocrisy and your rebuttal is essentially “I know you are but what am I”?
Hysterical.
I know you are but what am I? Really? That’s how you deal with this:
For the National Day of Prayer, and since it the feasts of the Descent of the Holy Spirit and Trinity Sunday is drawing nigh. I offer this prayer for you and your nation:
Come Holy Spirit, Creator, come
best gift of God above,
the living spring, the living fire,
sweet unction and true love.
Thou Who are called the Paraclete,
from Thy bright heavenly throne,
come, take possession of our souls,
and make them all Thine own.
Thou who are sevenfold in Thy grace,
finger of God’s right hand,
His promise, teaching little ones
to speak and understand.
O guide our minds with Thy blest light,
with love our hearts inflame;
and with Thy strength, which never decays,
confirm our mortal frame.
Far from us drive our deadly foe,
true peace unto us bring,
and through all perils lead us safe
beneath Thy sacred wing.
Through Thee may we the Father know,
through Thee the eternal Son,
and Thee the Spirit of them both,
thrice-blessed Three in One.
All glory to the Father be,
with his co-equal Son:
the same to Thee, great Paraclete,
while endless ages run. Amen.
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of Your love.
– Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created.
– And You shall renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray: God, who taught the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant that by the gift of the same Spirit we may be always truly wise and ever rejoice in His consolation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Ha! Ha! I am a Troll!
Thanks, Puff.
I guess the first step is to accept! Right? 🙂
God Bless
