I think that the New York Times must have been printed in King David’s day, or possibly a similar version called the New Jerusalem Times. Psalm 52 is what spurred this thought.
Why do you boast, O mighty man,of mischief done against the godly? All the day you are plotting destruction.Your tongue is like a sharp razor, you worker of treachery. You love evil more than good, and lying more than speaking the truth. [Selah]You love all words that devour,O deceitful tongue.…

That was dead on!
Nothing new under the sun. Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do.
I read that in the liturgy recently and thought the same thing. It was actually a real encouragement because I was getting down about all of the negative press. When I read this, I realized it’s nothing new. Those who follow God are always falsely accused, including Jesus himself.
You may wish to see the devastating response of Cardinal Levada to the allegations which have been posted in the official Vatican website at http://www.vatican.va/resources/resources_card-levada2010_en.html
I’d been noticing parallels to another psalm myself with regard to NYT: Psalm 12. . .”See how the wicked prowl on every side, while the worthless are prized highly by the sons of men. . .”
One part of the Levada piece: “Only when it learned that Murphy was dying did the Congregation suggest to Weakland that the canonical trial be suspended, since it would involve a lengthy process of taking testimony from a number of deaf victims from prior decades, as well as from the accused priest.”
it bears repeating that it was not a directive, and more importantly, it wasn’t heeded. To wit: the day that Fr. Murphy died, he was still a defendant in a Church criminal trial.
I thought the same thing in praying the LOTH. ..seems like it was written yesterday. Must be the Holy Spirit is not bound by time 🙂
