Thomas at American Papist was exactly right yesterday when he said that Bishop Carlson would be announced today as the new Archbishop of St. Louis.
St. Louis Catholic has some details on the Bishop and will be doing more analysis later.
American Papist has a couple of posts on the subject and no doubt will be providing more coverage especially with the press conference occurring latter on this morning.
The nicely revamped Archdiocese of Saint Louis website also has good information and you can follow the Archdiocese on Twitter.
Like Archbishop Burke who he succeeds he is also a canon lawyer and not a Bishop afraid to speak out about pro-abortion Catholic politicians. All evidence points to the fact that the people of St. Louis have got themselves another solid bishop.

Praise be the Lord for Archbp-elect Carlson. My congratulations to the faithful of St. Louis.
Great! Congrats to St. Louis!
Holy Father, can we get one for San Francisco someday soon?
Very interesting. St. Louis has been waiting a long time for a new Archbishop.
As a Milwaukeean still mourning the move of Archbishop Dolan to New York (it’s great, but we lost a wonderful leader), this keeps open the possibilities for us.
God bless Bishop Carlson and the people of St. Louis.
Jeff:
On your “canon lawyer and not a Bishop afraid to speak out about pro-abortion Catholic politicians”, I comment this:
When is to be clarified that Canon Law makes each local Bishop RESPONSIBLE for the usage of the name Catholic by ANY of the so called institutions in his Diocese?
As English is not my mother language, I consult the Webster often, and the meaning of the word RESPONSIBILITY, seems sadly lost, not even for Notre Dame, but for the so called Papists “American” (a subtly divisive protestantizer innuendo: should be Roman-Universal-Catholic Papist), that commends this:
“I am supportive of all efforts by ND response or any other prayerful and dignified demonstrations by Notre Dame students; and if my schedule allows, I will attend and also meet with students if they would find this helpful.” – Bishop J. M. D’Arcy.
Doesn’t look like poor D’Arcy is a pious beggar-prayer “supporter of demonstrators or boycotters”? And has NO authority to take away THE NAME CATHOLIC from ND?
Time to pray Psalm 83 1 O God, do not keep silence; do not hold thy peace or be still, O God!
2 For lo, thy enemies are in tumult; those who hate thee have raised their heads.
3 They lay crafty plans against thy people; they consult together against thy protected ones
