Me too. I can’t sleep, only pray. Even now I’m trying to cling to Chrysostom’s words on today’s Gospel:
“It is clear that death is now no more than a sleep. Today it is a truth that shines more brightly than the sun. ‘But,’ you say, ‘Christ did not raise my child!’
“Yes, but he will raise him up and with even greater glory. Because this little girl whose life he restored died again, whereas your child, when he has raised him up again, will abide forever.
“So let no one weep any more, let no one groan, no one criticize Christ’s work For he has conquered death.
“Why are you weeping useless tears? Death has become a sleep: why do you moan and weep?”
I really wish I could do something tangible. Work helps. I wish I could go over to Amy’s house and help her out, but she lives in Birmingham…. Boy, I hope all her family and new neighbors will stuff her freezer with home cooked food.
From an updated post on Amy’s blog, she said the thing we can do is buy Michael’s books. He promised the royalties from The How to Book of the Mass would go to the childrens’ college fund. She also asked for us to share his books and spread the Word, saying “that’s what he was all about.”
This has been on my heart and mind all night. I cannot imagine her pain and I am so sorry for their loss.

What a tragic thing; I am beyond words. Rest in peace, faithful servant. We will never forget you. With prayers
From Amy’s blog:
“November 16, 1958-February 3, 2009
Michael collapsed this morning at the gym and was not able to be revived despite the efforts of EMTs and hospital personnel.
We are devastated and beg your prayers.
Many thanks for all of the prayers and notes. It is overwhelming. Many have asked what they can do of a material or concrete nature. All I can say is to simply buy his books. Not from me, because I am in no position to fill orders, but from anywhere else. He long ago promised God that he would give all the royalties of The How To Book of the Mass to the children’s college funds, which he did faithfully. It is in good shape because of that. Buy them, read them, and give them away to others. Spread the Word. That is what he was all about.”

May he rest in peace. my family’s prayers are with Amy and her children. I cannot imagine what she is going through right now. May God give her strength and consolation.
FYI – Father Z is collecting spiritual bouquet posts.
Amy has requested that those who would like to help should buy Michael’s books because the proceeds go directly to their kids college fund. Lisa Hendey at Catholic Mom is helping with that request at http://new.catholicmom.com/2009/02/04/february-book-club/.

Amen.
So sad. So fast.

Shocked and stunned are gross understatements.
John Donne’s words ring true.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord.
