On Al Kresta’s radio show on Friday they discussed the Legionaire responses due to the scandalous life of Fr. Marcial Maciel. Thomas of American Papist was one of the guests on the show and did an excellent job addressing this, though he has been doing yeomen’s work on the subject on his blog.
You can subscribe to Al Kresta’s podcast of his show via this link in iTunes or other podcaster.
On a side note previously I only heard Al Kresta’s show from time to time if I happened to be driving when his show was on Catholic radio. I liked what I heard, but now that I found he has a podcast feed of his show I am able to listen to all of his full shows. I listen to a good amount of Catholic Radio and Catholic podcasts, but Al’s show is more like a regular talk show that ranges on topics from the Catholic Church to the daily news, politics, etc. Really quite a worthwhile show.

Good interviews. I like Al Kresta’s style.
I like Al Kresta a lot. Occasionally he bugs me by taking large numbers of calls on seemingly dumb questions, but usually he has great interviews.
You can also download mp3 files of his past programs here:

Jeff – Unfortunately, they are only podcasting hour three of a three-hour show.
If you are home and computer is within access while you are working on something, go here and breeze through the archives. I look at the topics and listen to shows on Saturdays off my laptop – of those that are not on podcast.
Start here and click on the show you want. You can go back over months to find stuff for listening for any of these
As a mother of a Legionarie seminarian who has both followed the story of Fr. Maciel for almost 10 years and been closely associated with over a dozen Legionary priest, I’m sadly disappointed with the the harshness that is being put forth toward the Legionaries of Christ. I understand the constructive criticism, as we see from Dr. Germain and much of what Pete Vere is putting forth but much of what I read at American Papist has become more cynical than constructive. I’ve been waiting for good Catholics to step up and say “hey, that’s my bother you’re talking about.”
The Legionaries of Christ didn’t ask to be frauded by their founder. My sorrow is that my son will forever have to shoulder the burden of this scandal. That’s the heritage that Maciel left him. Our only hope is if good Catholics are willing to say, “Son, it’s not your fault. You didn’t ask for this. We are thankful for your vocation. We are by your side.”
