With so many Catholic institutions giving honors to people who support abortion and dissidents something needs to be done. The latest examples being Cabrini College giving pro-abortion pro-women preist Catholic Cokie Roberts an award and the Diocese of Miami having an eco-theology nun speak.
The USCCB previously decided
“The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.”
This of course is not enforced in any way and so dissident business as usual occurs. What the USCCB needs to do is to set up fines that work like what the FCC does. For each occurrence a certain fine is leveled depending on how many intrinsic evils the person being honored supports. Think of the money the USCCB could make and maybe they could even provide scripture without charging for a copyright (even considering how much as I dislike the NAB). Though certainly some bishops/cardinals would go bankrupt paying these fines. Hitting these Catholic institutions in the pocket seems to be the only way to get through to them since supporting intrinsic evils is no big deal to them. If they didn’t pay the fine then they would be taken off the list of Catholic institutions. For some reason they like saying they are a Catholic institution in the tradition of

I think you should submit this proposal to whomever could do something with it. I, too am more than a little bit tired of the people and institutions who call themselves Catholic then do everything but practice what the faith teaches. Maybe hitting their pocket is just what they need. Glad someone thought of this!
I would love to see our Bishops of today take a page from the Bishops of the early Church. They believed in fraternal correction, they spoke up on issues of the day, and they did not back down from those who threatened them.
I’d love to see Bishops calling each other on their allowing dissent to pass as mainstream Catholicism. I’d like to see them do this in letters which are then shared with the people.
I’d like to see our public officials corrected publicly and often.
I’d like to see some debates between Bishops who disagree with each other–so that we can all see what they think and believe.
Make it public, make it loud, put it in writing, and get it out there in a format that will draw attention.
To the Bishops already doing these things–BRAVO!!!!!!! I want to see more of it.
Good idea. But I’m still voting for the Army of Albino Monk Assasins.
Wow, I love it! That would be great! To be a Catholic institution, any given organization should be required to follow certain guidelines.
Cabrini, unfortunately, is Catholic in name only (like so many others). I went there for a year and I can attest to how sad St. Frances Xavier must be.
Catholic has pretty much lost it’s meaning due to lack of protection in the face of innumerable abuses and identity thefts by “Catholic-this” and “Catholic-that” groups that pollute the world with their heresies and lies. And, very, very, very few people know it means universal anyways.
It’s time the Vatican registered some trade-names, logos, and trade-marks to control who gets to claim membership.
Just like the Olympic logo. If you aren’t officially scanctioned by Head Office, you cannot claim affiliation. Unapproved use of “Catholic” results in fines or jail in your home jurisdiction.
We could run an contest for new names and images to “Re-Brand” the true Church.
Of course the various national organizations that you register such things with would deny us the exclusive use of Jesus, Catholic and a variety of other terms and images that are our own, but I’m sure we can come up with something that is new, meaningful, and unique. A clear sign of contradiction.
Any suggestions?
Cokie Roberts is a speaker at this Northwest Catholic Women’s Convocation that I think I saw advertised at church, but looking at the other speakers and titles of their talks, I somehow have trouble believing it’s really a Catholic thing…. Maybe that it’s put on by the Intercommunity Peace and Justice Center explains (unfortunately) a lot. Description: “The dawning of a new story calls us to radical hope, to create life-giving stories for our personal relationships, social structures, faith communities and planet Earth. The Northwest Catholic Women’s Convocation gathers women for prayer, ritual, education, empowerment, celebration and transformation. Together we will envision new stories for our church and our world!” Meh. Yes, protecting the copyright would be great, if we could somehow.

Actually, I’m for throwing them out if they claim to be Catholic and they go out of their way to not be.
I love what Ann wrote about making the debate be loud and public, and letting people see who believes what.
I want to see more than just a couple bishops speak up on issues. It seems that we have so few good ones that will, the rest just embarrass me with their silence and timidity. And I certainly agree with Ann above.
I agree with setting fines an keeping track of this type of thing. The more I preach against the pro abortion and other pro’s that are against the Catholic teaching, the more it seems the Catholics push back with the the bad laws and culture of death. We need to remove rebuke these followers of the wrong truth, and egregious ill against the true Catholic teachings, and then portray themselves as true Catholics. Joe Biden, The Kennedy’s, Pelosi and so many more.
I suggest we try to also start a Rosary Campaign like that with Father Peyton. If we could inspire someone to take up that effort and grow that movement, it would be great to get it going. I have been trying to get EWTN to look for a person to do this feat.
Contact me if you fee the same way maybe we can actually get the Rosary for Life Campaign again.
Mandamum, you are right – the Northwest Catholic Women’s Convocation is giving Cokie Roberts a platform. It is really scandalous! The speakers include radical feminists who support things such as women’s ordination, new age spirituality, and creation-centered spirituality. If you have time, google some of the speakers to see what they believe and read some of their articles. I’ve tried (unsuccessfully) to get the posters removed from my parish and have called the Archdiocese of Seattle. I’m trying to get as many people as I can to do the same. There is nothing Catholic about this conference.
