Once again we get such words of wisdom from our Catholic Speaker of the House. And yeah I know every other Catholic pundit has already posted on this.
STEPHANOPOULOS: Hundreds of millions of dollars to expand family planning services. How is that stimulus?
PELOSI: Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children’s health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those – one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.
STEPHANOPOULOS: So no apologies for that?
PELOSI: No apologies. No. We have to deal with the consequences of the downturn in our economy.
Well at least she did not give a Patristic reason for this like she previously tried to do with St. Augustine. A comment like this really leaves you flabbergasted. She has expanded Satre to “Hell is other person’s children.” Yes those economy destroying children that are just going to use government resources. So let us just work toward preventing them. A hysterectomy or vasectomy in every pot. In fact if we nuke some of the more populated cities we can really reduce cost. We should at least license pregnancy to ensure that too many drains on the economy aren’t born. It is your patriotic duty not to have children in this economy. A downturn in the economy requires a downturn in family size. Wow just think about how this will help the baby goods market! We must contracept ourselves into economic growth. Hey I guess that makes sense. If we can spend our way into prosperity we can contracept into a Bull market.
Of course I wonder how they plan to pay for the “stimulus” plan which our children and grandchildren are going to get stuck with the bill if they aren’t there to help pay it? They should be all for population growth to support the Ponsi scheme called Social Security and the tons of debt they are incurring.
The whole argument is so silly, but it becomes much more annoying when a Catholic (who received Communion during the Pope’s visit) says this. Though I guess Speaker Pelosi is in a large company of Catholics who say no to the truth of Church teaching on contraception. Since Humanae Vitae we pretty much have let every one from those in the pew to theologians have a pass when dissenting on this issue. “Just follow your conscience” has been the cry from so many who were suppose to be helping in forming consciences.
I would hope that her Bishop Archbishop George H. Niederauer would say something about her promotion of a intrinsic evil. Her last foolish comments were a teaching moment that a score of bishops used to actually teach. One thing you can say about Speaker Pelosi is that he creates plenty of teachable moments. As American Papist reminds us it has been a 143 days since Speaker Pelosi accepted the invitation to speak to her bishop. I guess she can find no time for her bishop since she has Malthusian plans to unfold. Maybe she is wondering “What does a girl have to do to get herself denied Communion?” Vote for abortion over many years and praise contraception and I guess you are still not obstinately persisting in manifest grave sin. Gee I guess Nancy Pelosi’s soul is just not all that important.

There are plenty of non-politicians who think like that also: Catholicism is a cultural identity: your family has always been “Catholic”
but they seldom go to Mass or receive the Sacraments…except Baptism for the infants.
How far is one able to publicly go against Church teaching before something is done?
I wonder how many horcruxes the Speaker has secreted around the country?
I might be the only one thinking this but my thought is always poor bishop Niederauer…nothing like being the archbishop of one of the modern day equivalents of Sodom and/or Gomorrah. Add to this the raging heresy’s spewing from Madame Speaker’s mouth and there is a member of the episcopate that I think needs a ton of prayers.
Not that I would deny that he should have a very important “come to Jesus…or maybe don’t come to his table talk.”
Just my two cents.

ps all apologies that it’s a fake e-mail address but I don’t/can’t post it for comments. Sorry for the waste of time if it means this will be deleted.
Jeff…this woman blows my mind! Why is this allowed to happen and Rome remain quiet? I mean….this comes from the same lips that kissed the Pope’s ring! I don’t profess to be perfect….but this beats all as far as I’m concerned. Is her name Nancy Margaret Sanger Pelosi? I need to go to confession now, darn it!
Maybe when Obama said that we must get rid of childish things, he was thinking of all the nursery toys that will no longer be needed?
Another piece to add to the “Existentialism Bites” file.
This is so sad. I’ve been wondering how this phenomenon of “Catholic” politicians who espouse very non-Catholic ideas has come about. Perhaps Catholicism for them is just something cultural but they’ve never learned and thought about the Church’s reasons for its positions. We have a lot of work to do!
Don’t feel sorry for her bishop and pastor. They are doing exactly what they want to do. Just shows what happens when the “social justice” gang transforms the Church from “soul work” to “social work”. Mother Teresa was right. She said what the Church needs is for our priests to be more like “holy men” and less like “social workers.
Having your cake and eating it too:
Pelosi and her ilk simply want the political benefits of calling themselves Catholic without the burden of actually following the Church’s teachings.

Sort of. More than that, they want to cull from Catholic teachings the social justice portions (which liberals AND conservatives incorrectly interpret) and remake the rest in their own image.
You know – support for abortion, gay marriage, women “priests” and all that.
Turn the Catholic Church into any other weak-kneed, quasi-secular, feel-good social group rather than a church with a mission, purpose, and deep history.
Is not canon 915 tailor-made for such vile political creatures? If not her, then it’s a dead letter.
If only Pelosi knew that having more children is actually good for the economy. Yes, even the “unwanted” ones.

At a new blog called “Big Hollywood” an actor, producer and formerly “pro-choice” Don Juan named Gary Graham has written a powerful pro-life piece (slight language warning).
Graham once paid for girlfriends’ abortions. Now he knows God and knows that abortion is murder.
And he sees through Nancy Pelosi:
“Jump forward thirty years and Nancy Pelosi tells us yesterday that ‘family planning’ is now a fiscal responsibility to ‘reduce costs.’ Her defenders will say that NO, she’s talking about condoms and sex education. But anyone with a mind who’s been around for a while knows that ‘family planning’ is code for abortion. She is asking for 200 million dollars for Family Planning Services to ‘expand the economy.’ These are taxpayer dollars, dontcha know. Your money. She says states are in terrible fiscal crisis and it’s ‘part of what we do for childrens’ health and education’…” I’m trying to figure out how ripping an unborn child from it’s womb is aiding in it’s health or education, but maybe I’m missing something here.”
Bless the man – his eyes have been opened. I am glad to see a piece like this in a secular venue:

I just find myself staring at the screen with my jaw hanging open; for a mother and grandmother to say something so inane is beyond me. Pelosi’s a perfect example of just because you’re an elder does not necessarily mean you are wiser. All that money going down the sewers to promote fornication, and murder as well.
Wow, Donna V! Thanks for the link. That was awesome.
I’m with Chris on thanking Donna. That was an awesome post she linked. Many of the comments on it were awesome, too, especially the story of the woman who was so happy to have given birth to her child, even though the child resulted from a gang rape.
The former victim, who was not able to conceive afterward, (and was medically “incapable” of conceiving then) is now a proud grandmother. What a brave and generous woman! It is good to hear of her blessings.
How courageous it is for rape survivors to speak up on behalf of the unborn! And so important, particularly since they might otherwise become abortion’s “poster victims”. The last thing they need is for legalized abortion to continue on their behalf. Can you imagine what it would be like to be an abortionist’s excuse?
I wonder if Johnson & Johnson and Proctor & Gamble are rethinking their political donations right now.
It seems like everyone knows about ‘Humane vitae’,but how many know of ‘Casti Canubi’?
