A reader sent me a link to this column by Bishop Hermann
Save our children! More than anything else, this election is about saving our children or killing our children. This life issue is the overriding issue facing each of us in this coming election. All other issues, including the economy, have to take second place to the issue of life.
Save our children! Many people in Germany supported Hitler for economic reasons even though, as his programs advanced, he put to death millions of Jewish people. He ended up wrecking the economy together with the country of Germany.
How are we different if we vote for proabortion candidates for office? How can we help change our political and legal situation to protect innocent children and support a culture of life?
Save our children! When I speak to some socalled good Catholics, I am shocked that they are quite ready to vote for a pro-abortion candidate under almost any circumstance. I find this hard to understand. We have heard the word “abortion” so often that perhaps we no longer associate procured abortion with the killing of children, yet that is what it is. The term itself can be misleading. The dictionary tells us that it comes from a Latin word that means “to disappear or to miscarry.” Sometimes abortions simply happen because of natural causes. That is why this word abortion, for many people, apparently does not really connote the destruction of children. When a human agent induces an abortion, that human agent is taking the life of one of our children.
Save our children! How can a so-called good Catholic vote for a candidate that supports laws that take the life of innocent children, when there is an alternative? If there were two candidates who supported abortion, but not equally, we would have the obligation to mitigate the evil by voting for the less-permissive candidate.
Save our children! How can a so-called good Catholic vote for a candidate that supports laws that justify the killing of a child that survived a botched abortion? How can such a so-called good Catholic receive the Holy Eucharist?
In Chapter 10 of St. Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians, he states: “The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the Blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? … You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and also the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and of the table of demons.”
Save our children! Have some of our so-called good Catholics become so hardened against the Gospel of Life that they believe that other issues outweigh the Gospel of Life? Have some of our so-called good Catholics put politics ahead of the Fifth Commandment, in which God states: “Thou shalt not kill”? Do some of our so-called good Catholics, who may go to Mass every Sunday and receive the Holy Eucharist, really believe that voting for a pro-abortion candidate, when there is a clear alternative and therefore no justifiable reason for so doing, is really not voting to have children killed? This election is all about saving our children!
Save our children! I have no doubt that there may be some so-called good Catholics who are reading this column and who may be really angry about now. I ask the question “Why would such a person be angry?” If we do good deeds, then our conscience is at peace. If we do evil deeds, then our conscience bothers us. It is my hope that this column will lead some of our so-called good Catholics to study the Catholic Catechism.
Save our children! Some of our so-called good Catholics may have hardened their hearts against the real understanding of induced abortions, that they can no longer see that this involves the destruction of our children. “If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts!”
Save our children! Supporting induced abortions is not the greatest sin in the world. A greater sin is the refusal to repent of such a serious crime or the denial that this involves the killing of innocent children.
Save our children! I have used this terminology again and again penetrate the defenses of anyone who in the past may have put personal, economic or political interests above the issue of saving our children. The right to life is our most fundamental right, and to defend this right on behalf of the most vulnerable is a great privilege and is worth giving one’s life for. Policemen and firemen always risk their lives to save human life. Why should we not risk our own reputation to save our children?
Save our children! You can see by now that I do not believe that this column by itself will change hearts. The issue of abortion involves serious sin, and to overcome serious patterns of sin requires grace. If you are still with me, may I suggest that you join me and many others in praying the daily Rosary from now until election day for the sake of life. Why not pray the family Rosary every night between now and the general election. The Rosary brought down the Iron Curtain. It can also help us turn around the culture of death to a culture of life.
Save our so-called good Catholics who ignore Catholic moral principles when applied to our political life. Pray the family Rosary daily. Pray the family Rosary for our so-called good Catholics who could use your love and your charity. Pray for our so-called good Catholics who ignore serious Catholic moral teachings and still receive Holy Communion. Love them by praying the family Rosary for them. Don’t debate with them. Intercede for them. Praying for them is more fun than fighting with them.
Save our children and save our so-called good Catholics who have abandoned Church teachings in favor of personal gain. Pray the Rosary. Pray it every day. Get the whole family to pray the Rosary daily. Prayer is more powerful than contentious arguments. Spread the word to other families. In praying the Rosary, children’s votes count as much as adult votes. Sometimes they pray with purer hearts than we do. If you are disgusted with the TV news, then turn it off and turn on the prayer Internet. What we hear in prayer leaves us in peace. When we pray for our country and for our fellow citizens, we are filled with peace. St. Paul tells us that our warfare is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities and powers and the spirits of darkness.
Prayer is our protection. Let it also be a protection for our country. If you want to make Satan angry, pray the Rosary for the sake of Life. Pray that as a nation we will choose leaders that will say ‘no’ to the culture of death and say ‘yes’ to the culture of life. Save our children! Pray the Rosary! [source]

Amen!
This is amazing.
I do not understand after a Catholic, who may consider himself/herself good faithful Catholics — can still want to cast their vote for Obama.
If something like this does not change their hearts, then I fear nothing ever will.
They have been seduced by the allure of of someeone who speaks well, looks good, and sounds good.
They have really been seduced by Satan.
Wow is right! The comparison with Nazi Germany is apropriate. Too bad so many people cannot see the correlation. I am glad the bishop wrote in such strong terms. Strong leadership in the Church is a good thing, no matter what some democrats (I’m thinking Joy Behar and Bill Maher) may think.
Jeff, congratulations!
Regarding the comparison of Bishop Hermann, with other so-called “Roman Catholic” bishops who refuse to take resposibility, I posted at InsideCatholic this:
October 17th, 2008 | 3:02pm
Carmen:
“Is Cardinal Egan one of the no-good Catholic clergy? Just trying to keep the score straight”.
If we lay Catholics would send a cry (collecting signatures) to Benedict XVI, for relocating MANY scandalous bishops to meditate in Vatican jobs, we wouldn’t be lamenting the Eucharistic scandal in DC, or Georgetown and Egan’s FORDHAM honoring pro-abortion culprits, or having dozens of lawmakers (Biden, Pelosi, Kennedy, Kerry, Dodd, etc) shaming the name Roman Catholic.
We need to be more united and mobilized against the genocide”.
SHOCKINGLY, at InsideCatholic some minion CENSORED my last lines:
“The Infanticide Candidate team has mastered the art of fooling people into believing they are moderates when, in fact, they are actually solidifying their position as the party of death”.
Cordially
Not to sound at all ungrateful for the sudden outbursts of episcopal spine all over the country, for I am indeed most grateful, but I’ve been pondering these past few weeks– IF the bishops had been this fearless and outspoken from Day 1– from January 22, 1973 onwards– how different might our culture be now? I’m not even referring to the millions of innocent lives that might have been saved, but rather to the perverse, “pro-choice” mentality which has so infected mainstream society and large pockets of Catholicism.
I’m in no position to be a Monday morning (or thirty-five year) quarterback– I was just a baby when Roe was handed down– but I do grieve a bit for what might have been…
Margaret – I agree. Too little, too late this time around. If all the bishops in this country had their statements on this subject printed in their parishes’ bulletins the outcome of this election just might be different, but I’m afraid they are still in fear of losing their precious tax-exempt status for that to happen. The ball they dropped many years ago has allowed pro-abort Catholic politicians to take over the Democrat party.
I do not think this is “too little, too late”. Let’s not forget the parable of the mustard seed…
Jeff, if you think that one’s good, read this week’s one in the St. Louis Review. Bp. Hermann is 2-for-2.
You had me with the Greek Captcha.
I am confessing my sin of silence. For 35 years I have voted pro-life, yet I have complained about our spineless Bishops and unfaithful Catholics to myself. I have left out the only thing that can effectively combat the culture of death. Prayer! I have recently begun praying for LIFE. Last night my husband and I went to our local abortion mill and prayed for an hour. I will continue to pray to save the children. The Rosary and the WORD…our weapons.
There is no worse blind, than who do not want to see…
Is fascinating to observe, how the Infanticide Candidate’s closet or open advocates of… nothing less than FOCA, loose their cool, irked to a panicky point when named as:
AUSCHWITZ DEBATE CLUB.
The official bearer of the title? FOCA-obamanite hordes are The Vox-Nova “Catholic philosophers” (they banned their commenter Zippy, author of the brandishing).
Close contestant for the title is the CENSOR-minion at InsideCatholic, noted to hide from the abortion PRINCIPAL non-negotiable issue in his posts.
If interested, laugh loud on how he CENSORED this line in my today’s comment to the Egan scandal:
“Egan said he had agreed with Giuliani not to take the Eucharist, and thought mission accomplished? Do we take that as a public warning ‘or serving him the papers’?
Did he start proceedings to excommunicate… such a public, scandalous culprit?
The point here is scandal:
Leading the ignorant to vote for increasing the biggest genocide known to mankind, avowing “to sign immediately upon taking office” – the Freedom of Choice Act FOCA (to eliminate all existing limitations against abortion).
We must attack the jugular: Countless rationalizations and moral equivocations from convoluted & pathetic Auschwitz Debate Clubbers, who twist themselves in knots trying to hide the sun with one finger: the grotesque evil of increasing with FOCA the 1.5 million butchered a year.
The GOP record is a lesser evil than FOCA or not?
Clear folks? Not clear if the same scandal is exploding with Fordham’s Fr. McShane S.J. (or McShame?), under Egan’s direct authority, proceeding to honor a major pro-abortion culprit.
And, is the same scandal noted by David:
“The problem is not that His Eminence invited Obama to dinner. The problem is that he failed to use the opportunity to openly and forcefully call him to conversion”.
LAUGH AT THE CENSORED-IRKING LINE:
…convoluted & pathetic Auschwitz Debate Clubbers, who twist themselves in knots… (trying to hide… their Max Shame).
Keep hiding, minions freakish enemies of the normal!!!
Can we please stop using the phrase “pro-abortion”? There is no such thing. No one gets pregnant just to have an abortion which is what the phrase implies. Argue and protest as much as you want but at least use the word that appropriately describes your opponent.
Wow! God bless America!
Can we please stop calling it pro-abortion? Can we do so because no one gets pregnant to have an abortion?
Uh, okay, let’s call it, “Pro-I’m so selfish I can kill another human as long as it’s convenient to me.”
Yeah, that gets to the heart of it.
To be “pro-” something is to believe that something is an acceptable course of action. Therefore, anywho who believes that abortion is an acceptable course of action is “pro-abortion”. Even those who are “personally opposed to abortion:, but don’t want to limit someone’s “choices”, for abortion is simply one of those acceptable choices.
Anyone who believes that abortion is not an acceptable course of action is “anti-abortion” of “pro-life”.
Anyone who is “pro-choice” believes that abrotion is acceptable, and therefore is pro-abortion. Anyone who is “pro-life” believes that abortion is completely unacceptable, and therefore, anti-abortion.
Its not that difficult, and it is either black or white. Something is either a sin or it isn’t.
Rick,
No, people don’t get pregnant to have an abortion. But if they think that abortion is an acceptable choice, they are pro-abortion. Even if they are personally opposed “but don’t want to impose their morality” on anyone, they still believe abortion is an acceptable course of action…and therefore agree with it and support it.
AMERICAN CHILDREN NEED SOLDIERS
Increasingly young people are in need of support and protection
When a Country or Province is in need, America sends in soldiers
For our young people there is an urgent need for better education
Everyday, on their own they must deal with unsavory characters
Our children cannot and must not fight this destructive war, alone
Adults, take lessons from 1600 Pa., Avenue and bring in the troops
Before long most of our young will be locked up or dead and gone
It will be too late for tears, excuses, blaming or just plain, “oops”
Am I speaking of soldiers with guns, tanks, and planes, of course not
Children need role models armed with knowledge, leadership and love
Becoming role models, it is something we seem to have all but forgot
Whatever it takes to carry our children from way below to way above
In spite of what you see on televisions, all soldiers do not shoot and kill
More than a few soldiers use their brains to win wars and save nations
We must come together because our young people have destines to fulfill
Instead of free meals in prisons, children need academic congratulations
What about it adults are we ready to put on our uniforms and go to war
Or are we going to be deserters and let the enemy destroy our children
With our children, adults no longer have an established, positive rapport
If children cannot rely on positive adults, it is thugs on whom they depend
We need good role models for all children, not just middle and upper class
A waitress or sanitation worker’s child is just as important as a Senator’s
Support, proper teaching, encouragement and love, most children can surpass
Late, Great James Brown said, “Don’t Give Me Nothing. Open Up The Doors”
Need soldiers on the home front for children, “So They Can Get It Themselves”
Children belong to all of us because in America we are all Sisters and Brothers
We will never bring about the needed change if we only think of just ourselves
If you recall I started this poem by sharing with you four very important things,

My name is David W. Johnson, Jr. I am an Author, Poet, Mentor and Motivational Speaker for children and adults on behalf of our children. The purpose of this letter is to help encourage everyone, especially adults, to become more involved with our children. We need to help our children live longer, healthier, intellectual and positive lives.
Adult neglect of our children has them on paths of serious destruction. As adults, if we do not change those paths and soon, our children will not survive.
The reason I remain committed is became I became tired of listening to the News day after day and hearing about young children, teenager and young adult being murdered, incarcerated, molested or kidnapped. I could no longer ignore the situation.
I encourage all caring adults to stop ignoring the problems while waiting on the likes of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Tom Joyner, Michael Baisden or Oprah Winfrey. Young people need older, experienced adults in their communities to step-up and give them the benefit of their knowledge and wisdom. Communities need to help politicians, teachers, organizations and neighbors to make a positive difference in our children’s lives.
Our children are not just hoodlums, drug dealers, gangsters, baby makers, so forth and so. I assure you, THEY ARE NOT!!! Young people are looking and praying for the same opportunities our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, teachers, preachers, neighbors, law enforcement, etc., gave us. Too many adults today are not offering children the kind of support, encouragement and leadership they had growing up.
Too many so-called sports and musical superstars are leading children to prisons, cemeteries and down the paths of no respect and disrespect. Please, understand me; there are some great and decent singers and sports figures in America but the negative ones seem to get young people’s attention, thanks to our media.
So in 2009, are we going to continue to set back and let our children murder innocent people, one another, be murdered by opposing gangs, in shootouts with the police, molested by perverted pastors and priest, seduced by pedophile neighbors or are we going to do whatever it takes to offer them hope for the future? Children are not the blame for the problems they are having or the problems they are causing. Adults are!!!
(2)
More than any other communities, the African American communities are losing their young people to incarceration, hospitalized or cemeteries.
The African American communities are losing its male population. If you do not believe me, do what far too many African Americans fail to do, READ!!! Some very, very valuable and life saving information that could help the African American Communities are in books and on computers.
Look around. What do we seem to crave these days? Fancy cars, I-Pods, X-boxes, Playstations, expensive clothes that are excessively large We want big televisions, drugs, guns, alcohol and every man or woman with money or good looks. We waste our children’s college funds playing lottery and going to casinos.
Who is selling us drugs? We are! Who is bringing drugs into the Country? Not us!!” Food for thought”, The Ronald Reagan administration used African Americans to sell drugs, starting in California and spreading throughout the inner cities in order to fund the Iran-Contra War. We are still suffering from that to this day. I assure you that were just one of many incidents designed intentionally to destroy African Americans. We are destroying ourselves but it was not our plan.
We had better wake-up before we are put to sleep, permanently. Where will our grandchildren and great-grandchildren end up, without our help? Think about that!!!
If you think this is some king of an exaggeration about drugs, gangs and murders search the internet and find out how many young people and one another in 2007 and 2008 We are now in 2009 and they are traveling down the same destructive paths. Until we do something positive about this, it is only going to get worse.
While I seem to be focusing on African American children, I assure you my concern is for ALL children. We might be from different Races but I we are all Americans and I am fighting for America’s Children.
Whether you are reading my e-mail, have in your hands one of my “Presentation Packages” or an actual book, I urge you to take this message to heart and help others and myself, “Save Our Children’s Lives” and do it with “rapid speed.” As Americans, too often we have a tendency to look for reason(s) not to help instead of the other way around. God has given me a mission and has asked me to ask you to lend a hand.
Sincerely,
David W. Johnson, Jr., Founder & President
