A lot of WYD stories have concentrated on
it as a Catholic Woodstock, here is a different one.
Priests have set up emergency
confessionals as thousands of pilgrims surge on to Randwick Racecourse
– sleeping out in a vigil ahead of tomorrow’s final mass.
Priests have taken plastic chairs and are sitting on the ground to take
the “overwhelming” number of young people looking to confess their sins.
“There’s too much. I came at one o’clock and there were so many people
here I thought I had to help the other priests,” said Father Bernard
Speringer, a priest from Austria.
“The sisters had planned (for confession) but they were overwhelmed by
so many.
Also not covered are the catechetical session that go on during the day.

Sisters????
“The sisters had planned (for confession) but they were overwhelmed by so many.”
Sisters???? what do they have to do with Confession? Just organizing it…?
If it is like any other WYDs, sisters take charge of organizing, set up, signing up priests, pass out examinations of conscience, etc. They did the same thing for the papal visit to DC. Nothing fishy.
What a WONDERFUL crisis to have: the Church overwhelmed by penitents! Deo gratias!
I don’t know if this was one of their responsibilities, but the Dominican Sisters of St Cecilia (Nashville Dominicans) have had three sisters there for a year to help with the planning. They are young, habited, joyful and completely orthodox. Check out their website at http://www.nashvilledominican.org/Main.htm. Put your mind to rest, no danger here of sisters trying to move into Priest domains. Overwhelming numbers of penitents just show that someone (in concert with the Holy Spirit) did a great job. Thanks be to God.
Well, back at their parishes the youth have trouble making the 2 minutes of Confession offered at 5:00 AM on the third tuesday of every other month… provided they have met previous conditions and can pick the lock to enter the Church.
At least, that’s what things feel like around here.
