Bangkok – The United Nations will send nearly a quarter of a million condoms into cyclone-hit Myanmar to help needy survivors with no access to contraceptives, a UN official says.
So far, the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) said it had sent 72 800 condoms to survivors struggling to maintain their family planning after the storm hit in early May.
A total of 218 400 condoms would be delivered, UNFPA aid advisor Chaiyos Kunanusont said.
"We don’t want regular use of contraception disrupted. An emergency usually damages the health system, so people don’t have access to condoms and contraceptives," said Chaiyos.
Flights were also carrying reproductive health kits, which included razors for cutting umbilical cords, clean sheets for delivering babies and enough contraceptive pills and injections to last 3 390 women three months.

This is the same basic trend just as in Africa where they have a surplus of condoms given to them but basic medicines are totally lacking. The contraceptive culture is a sickness where the first response to the immensity of so many lives lost is to prevent more lives.

I’d be pretty angry if my house was lost, my family was missing, I didn’t have anything to eat, and I found out the UN was flying in CONDOMS to help me. Last I checked you can’t live in, ear, or love a condom. This plan gets the “What the hell were they thinking?” award.
(you’ve got 2 posts mingled- no mingling allowed!)
I thought this was one of your “tongue-in-cheek” posts??? The message to the victims seems to be – “Sucks to be you – and here, use these so you don’t go reproducing any more losers”.
This is so ugly I can’t begin to put it into words. “For the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on is and on the whole world.”
Why didn’t they do something useful and send some food. You can’t really eat a condom. A condom can’t really help rebuild your house. A condom won’t get you a job. A condom can’t cure an illness. A condom won’t clean the street. A condom can’t gut a house. It can’t even help you do any of these things. I suppose if you spliced enough of them together say 200,000 you might be able to make some kind of shelter for a family.
What I’m wondering is, why didn’t I get free condoms when my house was washed away after hurricane Katrina?
The UN/EU/WHO are persistent in pushing population control on all countries that may require help/membership from them. Of course, these would be the easist people to push around. The Red Cross are also very much ‘pushers of condoms’.A Red Cross workshop here caused controversy by a) telling participants they shouldn’t be praying ‘grace'(which they ignored) and b) by suggesting in a news article that schools (including our parish school) that didn’t welcome their ‘sex education and condom awareness ‘ program were not worthy of gov’t funding.
Perhaps the Myanmar gov’t are not willing to give up their ‘sovereignty’ so easily as some south american countries have been. I don’t blame them for recognizing that the UN HAS alterior motives.
The Asian Nations have never really been ones to play along. Come to think of it, they hate the Western world and the UN is veiwed as a product of the West. The condom thing is just a flipping insult.
Them: “We’re dieing here!”
UN: “Here, make sure your babies never get the chance to live while you’re at it”

Yeah, that’s what I got out of this. Tens of thousands died, but hey – don’t let that get in the way of your “family planning”. Heaven forbid you create new life to replace what was lost. It might bother a polar bear or something.

And – if I lost everything I own, my government was withholding aid and blocking aid workers – the *last* thing on my mind would be sex. Just sayin’…
Ummm… So how are people even supposed to GET these condoms and contraceptive pills and injections? I thought the roads were gone. They are supposed to walk hours to a clinic to get condoms, rather than hours to get food? Are these UN people out of their minds?
I guess so, because they think condoms will solve all evils. And I’m not even talking about condoms doing nothing to prevent most STDs. I’m talking about basic logistics. Every time I hear someone spouting this stuff I want to ask if they think these desperately poor people are supposed to do, just walk down to their corner Walgreens? Do they have a CLUE what life is like in some of these countries?
