How absolutely wonderful.
The Pope is going to make a personal visit to Cardinal Avery Dulles in his bedroom while in Dunwoody seminary. It was not on his schedule. Cardinal Dulles is too ill to attend any of the events but no one deserves a private visit more.
Dulles, who is 89, is one of the great converts and theologians of the 20th century and gave his final annual McGinley lecture at Fordham on April 1. When I met him last April, he was still able to walk with a cane. Now, he is wheelchair bound.

What a touching gesture!
My mother mentioned it to me as we were watching the coverage on EWTN, that is so awesome and wonderful that our Holy Father would think to do that.
That is such a wonderful gesture. Like you, I met Cardinal Dulles last April. I was shocked to see how quickly his condition has declined.
Noone deserves a private visit anymore? I think this Pope of ours has done quite a few first-time-evers in the last few years, no?
Hm, I misread. Hasn’t been the first time.
Does anyone know what is wrong with Cardinal Dulles? Is it just the general wear of age, or is it something more “acute”?
Thanks, Jeff, for reminding me to pray for Cardinal Dulles. I had prayed for him by name every evening since I read some of his beautiful writings years ago, but recently (apparently when he needed prayers most–yikes) he fell off my list because it was growing so long that my kids would nod off during our “litany” of petitions.
I didn’t even know he was ailing. He’s back on the list now!
