Pastor John Hagee with a "Thank you, Pope Benedict"
Surely his meeting with Deal Hudson has born some fruit. My headline was just in fun and not representative of the article.
For a Whore of Babylon, he's a pretty nice guy

I haven’t seen any of Pastor Hagee’s reported tirades against Catholicism, but this looks to be a very positive step.
Initially when I began working in an independent Catholic bookstore I was surprised to find “we” carried Hagee’s books. His eschatology has nothing in common with Catholic teaching and he is noted for hate mongering about the Catholic Church. There had to be a reason for putting his stuff on the shelf. After nine months work I figured it out: Lots of Catholics watch his little show and buy his books. I don’t work there anymore but no doubt even more books will sell now that he’s making whoopie with the enemy.
A nice sentiment, but I couldn’t help notice the positioning at the end to make sure it looked like the Church was following his lead. Gotta love someone who can’t compliment someone else without making sure to pat themselves on the back a couple times in the process.
“I have indeed been quite zealous about condemning the past anti-Semitism of the Catholic Church… anti-Semitism”. What exactly is Pastor Hagee referring to here?
I am sick and tired of uninformed Catholics and those would seek to equivocate Pastor Hagee’s theological views as similar in nature and scope to the words of the insidious “Reverend” Wright.
First of all, there is no comparison to what Pastor Hagee has said or is alleged to have said and what we know to have come from the mouth of the racist Wright. Period.
Secondly, Pastor Hagee is not anti-Catholic. He simply believes in the salvific nature of the theology he has forged. Hideous and typically self-serving though it may be (by “typical” I mean in the case of general Evangelical Protestantism), the same could be said about ANYONE who believes their chosen religion conveys the true keys to understanding Scripture and the means to everlasting life, including and especially Catholics.
Catholics do not think the warmbodies lining Hagee’s stadium seating (I was going to say “pews”) are on the expressway to Heaven. The best we can do is hope and pray they make their way across the Tiber spiritually before their bodies make it across the Styx physically.
The belief that one’s own religious system is superior to another’s is not a sufficient requirement for labeling a given person or given belief system as “anti-Catholic”.
Sorry whingers.
If that were the case, then Catholicism would be by its very nature anti-Semitic, Islam would be anti-Christian and Buddhism anti-Hindu.
This is madness. We have to be able to agree to disagree in a world of free will and human rights. We also should not be so quick to claim the mantle of victim because we Catholics are emphatically NOT victims.
I have listened to the sermons of Pastor Hagee for years (his words are practically omni-present in Texas) and never once got a hint of his dreaded “anti-Catholicism.” Though I am no fan of his and I consider his theology to be both fatally and tragically flawed, I was floored when the accusations of anti-Catholicism went flying around anyone who approached him during the primary.
“Of course we all know…”
Of course nothing! I believe the “excerpts” of his teachings circulating the internet are pure hoax and certainly in this day and age of blog-spionage and incriminating YouTubery, someone somewhere could have come up with something more substantial than that.
Hagee for his part has denied any such utterances and clarified that he has always taught the Whore of Babylon as he understood it to be a great conglomeration of pseudo-Christian apostates from ALL denominations. So if anything, he is an avowed anti-non-denominationalist.
Get your pitchforks!
I am so tired of the laziness behind the fast-and-lose accusations that fly on these blogs. They are an affront to Truth and have served evil by giving future anti-evangelical pundits the ammunition they need to redirect the Catholic vote from worthy pro-lifers. You stinking, lying, backstabbing, no-good, bloggers are such splendid dupes and ignoramuses that you no longer understand what a tremendous disservice you do.

StubbleSpark, you’ve got to stop holding back like this. Tell us what you really think.
There, there.
Now, now.

And tell me if I have ever on this site (or any other Catholic blog, for that matter), criticized or repudiated any Catholic blogger.
You will not find a single case.
My other blog haunts used to be jimmyakin.org and american papist.
As I started reading Hagee’s comments regarding the Pope, his attempt to ‘ride on the coat tails’ of the Pope were apparent, as if they were on some sort of level playing field. I’m sure it was not his intention, but the tone of this article lacks in humility. I have to say I will never understand why some Catholics follow those like protestant preachers Hagee – we have such a rich treasure, we have all we need, right here in Holy Mother Church.
