VATICAN CITYPope Benedict XVI on Saturday set the founder of the Knights of Columbus, one of the world’s largest lay Catholic groups, on the path to possible beatification and sainthood, the Vatican said.
The pope recognized the “heroic virtues” of the Rev. Michael J. McGivney, who in 1882 created a fraternal society for Catholic men who suffered discrimination because of their religion and immigrant origins.

Truly deserved! I read McGivney’s biography a few years ago, and it’s very relevant to today’s priests.
This is unrelated to Fr McGivney’s cause but I didn’t know how else to reach you, Curt Jester. Sorry. You will be interested to know I think that Father Tom Willis, it has been publicly announced today, is going to be the new pastor of the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Augustine. You had a piece or two about him. He’s the author of the quip to the effect that the old school Mass is fitting for people with ADD, you’ll recall. Thought you should know.
Stupid question, but this means he’s now referred to as “Venerable”?
Yes, he can now be called Venerable Michael McGivney.
