Political strategist Donna
Brazile said she will quit her position with the Democratic National
Committee if superdelegates decide who gets the Democratic presidential
nomination.
The superdelegate vote should reflect the will of the people,
Brazile, who managed Al Gores 2000 presidential campaign and is
herself a superdelegate, told National Public Radio.
Help me out here. Exactly what is the point of the Democrat’s
superdelegates if they can’t trump popular vote? If they always go
along with the popular vote then it is a rubber stamp and serves no
purpose. Donna Brazile was made a superdelegate by Bill
Clinton so certainly she has had time to figure out what the role is
all about. I guess she likes having two votes more than
actually quitting this position now.
I think the superdelegates are exactly like the pigs in Animal Farm.

Donna is a Gore-ite, and therefore hates the Clintons. She probably figures Obabama will win the nomination (and she’s probably right). This statement may be her way of saying that she will not not NOT use her superdelegate status to help Hillary.
I don’t know who that “Obabama” guy is I just referenced, but I meant Obama.
As I understand it, the idea is that, once it becomes clear who will ultimately win the nomination, all the superdelegates will announce that they support that candidate, causing the other candidates to withdraw before the convention.
This works fine, unless there’s no clear winner before the convention.
On the political theme, if you want to make your hair stand on end see Dylan’s post linking to a Slate piece proclaiming Catholics are a natural constituency for Obama.
Jeff, you’ve been “soft-linked”… if I can coin that phrase.
Something tells me the Democrats are not really about democracy.
Speaking as a Canadian I have to wonder just what does Donna Brazille’s status as a super-delegate have to do with the Catholic faith and the splendour of truth? I am well aware that there are theological and moral issues raised by the stands of the various candidates but surely the issue of the role of super-delegates is not one of them.
Surely the Democrats’ vision of America has more in common with Animal Farm than just this, no?
There seems something very wrong about stacking the National Democratic convention with hand-picked, elite delegates. I don’t know why the Democratic rank and file allow it…oh wait…it’s probably because they’d be out voted (by the super delegates, of course). Maybe the Democrats should change their name to the Elitocrats.
Just for the record, both the Dems and the GOP have superdelegates.
