VATICAN CITY (Roto Reuters) – Chico who is Pope Benedict’s 9-year old cat has filed an injunction against the release of the book by Italian author Jeanne Perego. "Chico and Joseph — A Cat Recounts the Life of Pope Benedict XVI" a illustrated 44-page book is purported to cover the life of the Pope through Chico’s eyes.
Chico’s attorney in filing the injunction stated "At no time has Jeanne Perego contacted with my client in any way and there have been no interviews whatsoever.”
"My client Chico feels that this book is highly dishonest and that any views expressed in the book are not necessarily his own. Chico meowed to me that ‘Hey I wasn’t even alive in 1927 so how in the heck could I have related my owner’s life from when he was born? That "nine-lives" stuff is purely superstition and my owner has lectured me and others about holding superstitions beliefs.'”
"My client want this unauthorized biography removed and failing that to get royalties or some percentage donated for homeless cats not fortunate to have such a brilliant and kind owner."

lol What would the royalties be? Cat food for Chico & the homeless kitties? 🙂
Or visits to the vet?
Makes me wonder if Chico’s vet is allowed a title… I think P6 did away with a lot of those, but if I lived in Rome, I would make every effort to have them attended to by the Petrine Vetrinarian.
The real issue is the original title “Chico and the Man”
Ooh, I think poor Chico needs to ponder the scripture on settling with his brother on the way to court.
Although maybe there is an exception for cats.
🙂
Chico’s right, if that’s the way the book’s written, that has to be one long-lived cat!
I think a nice percentage of royalties set aside for homeless cats is a fine idea. I know the Vatican frowns on birth control; but is it wrong to advocate spaying & neutering for kitty-cats? I’m firmly a believer in Bob Barker’s dogma here.
As part of our God-granted dominion/stewardship of Creation, we humans do have the right to spay and neuter the creatures placed under our domain, as we find needful.
We do not have such dominion over other humans or our own bodies, so no go there.
A few years back, somebody pretended to be Pope Benedict and started the blog Musum Pontificalis and it was hillarious! Is it possible then that Chico will start his own blog along the same lines?
