(CNSNews.com) – A Catholic advocacy group is urging Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign to remove an image of Mother Teresa from a campaign video narrated by former President Bill Clinton.
"It is wholly inappropriate, disrespectful and disturbing that Hillary Clinton is using an image of Blessed Mother Teresa as a political tool, especially given their radically different views on abortion," said Fidelis President Joseph Cella.
He noted that Mother Teresa fought to protect unborn children, while Hillary Clinton "staunchly supports abortion on demand in all nine months of pregnancy, including partial birth abortion and taxpayer funding of abortion.
"Out of respect to Mother Teresa, and the Missionaries of Charity strict guidelines for the use of Mother’s image, we call on the Hillary Clinton campaign to immediately remove her image from their campaign video," Cella said in a news release.
A shot of Mother Teresa standing with then-First Lady Hillary Clinton and daughter Chelsea appears in the five-minute video for only a moment.
No surprise they are not running with what Blessed Mother Teresa said at the National Prayer Breakfast in 1994 to the Clinton’s.
…But I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child – a direct killing of the innocent child – murder by the mother herself. And if we accept that a mother can kill her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?
How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion? As always, we must persuade her with love. The father of that child, whoever he is, must also give until it hurts. By abortion, the mother does not learn to love, but kills even her own child to solve her problems. And by abortion, the father is told that he does not have to take any responsibility at all for the child he has brought into the world.
Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching the people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want. That is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion.
And for this I appeal in India and I appeal everywhere: "Let us bring the child back." The child is God’s gift to the family. Each child is created in the special image and likeness of God for greater things – to love and to be loved. This is the only way that our children are the only hope for the future. As other people are called to God, only their children can take their places.
But what does God say to us? He says, "Even if a mother could forget her child, I will not forget you. I have carved you in the palm of My hand." We are carved in the palm of His hand – that unborn child has been carved in the hand of God from conception, and is called by God to love and to be loved, not only now in this life, but forever. God can never forget us.
From our children’s home in Calcutta alone, we have saved over 3,000 children from abortion. These children have brought such love and joy to their adopting parents, and have grown up so full of love and joy! I know that couples have to plan their family, and for that there is natural family planning, not contraception. A husband or a wife must turn their attention to each other, as happens in natural family planning, and not to self, as happens in contraception. Once that living love is destroyed by contraception, abortion follows very easily.

I was remembering that National Prayer Breakfast last week when I went to the Pentagon’s Memorial Chapel for confession before daily Mass. On the way out, I saw a picture of an old priest, Fr. Robert Reilly commemorating his death. I remembered him from my days working at the building years ago and how much I loved his homilies. One time in particular he was talking about acting our Christianity and used Blessed Mother Theresa as an example. I paraphrase:
“And there you had, this ‘shrimp’ of a woman staring at the two most powerful men in the world and telling them how they were wrong and all they could do was to shift unconfortably on their chairs.”
After working at a different government agency for six years, I went back to supporting the military and got back my Pentagon badge. I went to Mass one day and he was officiating. It made me sad to see he had aged quite a bit in just a few years. Please remember him in your prayers.
Hillary makes my blood boil – and it’s not going to get any better between now and election time.
It’s people like H Clinton that put my Christianity to the test – she’ll make a Saint out of me before the end. In all things, charity…
What people should know is that, while the audience applauded Mother Teresa’s speech at the National Prayer Breakfast, the Clintons and Gores were stone-faced and did not clap.
