I listen to a plethora of podcasts and recently The K Street Catholic podcast from the Catholic Information Center which has a large number of speakers and topics. This week among other podcasts they had the Archbishop of Washington D.C. Donald W. Wuerl, S.T.D. talk about the catechetical renewal of the Catholic Church. He is an excellent speaker and truly a master catechist and you can go here to listen to it directly or better yet to subscribe to their RSS feed via your favorite podcast tool.

Its ironic that Ab. Donald Wuerl would be speaking in the “City on Hill” lecture series considering his refusal to admonish proabortion politician and refuse them the Eucharist as is his duty.
Oh good grief. It’s getting to the point where you can’t mention the good man’s name in any context without someone chiming in to second-guess how he should have run the first year of his episcopacy.
You have been tagged for the Lenten Meme.

Have a happy and holy Lent!
Considering what Archbishop Wuerl wrote on his first pastoral letter and his directive to all parishes to offer confession for additional hours…

He deserves all the criticism he gets.
He deserves all the criticism he gets.
It is not a question of what he deserves. It is a question of what is good for the church. It is also a question of who has the right to throw the first stone. Do you believe God has entrusted him with the solemn task of leading the faithful of Washington DC? If so, then pray for him instead of stabbing him in the back.
No one here has stabbed anyone in the back, Randy, so lay off the melodrama. Bishops are not above criticism.
The only people who are being stabbed in the back are the unborn. Literally. Do you want me to link to the pictures?
Don’t forget to pray also for he who appointed the good bishop.
“It is not a question of what he deserves. It is a question of what is good for the church.”
…which often involves our getting what we deserve.
People are too busy kissing this guy’s ring (or whatever he exposes for veneration) to notice how he bullied that one questioner at his K Street appearance — the one who was guilty of nothing more than taking Bishop Sheen’s advice, and admonishing their bishop to act like a bishop.
There’s a difference between the man and the office, between kissing rings and… you know the rest.
