Homoerotic art featured at auction held Saturday at Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral to benefit AIDS clinics in Mexico
The AIDS Healthcare Foundation held an art exhibition and auction last night at the conference center of Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral in Los Angeles to raise money for clinics it sponsors in Tijuana and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
A California Catholic Daily reader who saw a preview of the event on a Los Angeles television program alerted the newspaper via email regarding the event. "They showed some of the items, and it was really gross — men hugging, tops bared, nude males back scenes," said the reader in the email.
The title for the event was “Amigos y Amantes” (Friends and Lovers).

If only a story like this would be hard to believe. Unfortunately with the Archdiocese of L.A. with their rainbow fishes and ordinations of an openly homosexual deacon it has come to be what you would expect. A diocese where culture of death politicians are welcomed with open arms without a mention of any caveat. For example Assembly Speaker Fabian Nuñez who has been at events in the past with Cardinal Mahony is one of supporters of California’s latest euthanasia bill. He recently said.
Nuñez said he would call Mahony today. But he added: "I think the toughest conversation I’m going to have is with my Catholic mother, who wanted me to be a priest."
Any wonder that the Archdiocese with the largest population is towards the bottom of the list when it comes to most indicators?
I do admit Cardinal Mahony drives me crazy, which is why I pray for him daily both for his sake and my own.

It’s sad that this is not shocking. Such is the state of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
Interesting sidenote, Cardinal Mahony gave the homily at our church this last Sunday. However, we wasn’t actually at the Church, he had all the Churches in LA give a recorded homily of his urging parishioners to support his financial appeal for the less fortunate Parishes in the diocese using the Beatitudes as a springboard.
First time I’ve heard a recorded homily at Mass. Probably not the last.
Dean,
I’ve been to several masses where this was done, mostly for the annual bishops appeal.
I’m sort so-so on what I think about it, but don’t hold me to that.
Dean,
It just seems so odd to me to be sitting there at Mass listening to a recording. Yes, I understand that the Bishop can’t be everywhere at once, but it seems to me that it’d be more personal and tasteful to delegate the homily regarding the appeal to the priests.
Like I said, it’s just strange.
I agree totally.
This is my first post on this blog. I’m a little concerned that it will be deleted since I’m not named Dean.
Wasn’t Cardinal Mahoney named as the new head of the CDF? Or did something change?
I’m guessing this is necessary because Cardinal Mahony can’t bilocate. I’m not sure he meets the qualifications. (Which I don’t either, also proving that evolution isn’t true, since it would be a great help in raising kids.)
Why doesn’t the priest read the appeal like they do everywhere else in the world. Or publish it in the bulletin (or do a direct mailing)? Why did it have to be recorded – was there mood music or something in the background? Perhaps subliminal audio?
I wonder the appropriateness of recorded homilies – liturgical law allows for visiting priests, but recorded messages? As much as I’d like to hear Fr. Corapi (for example, let alone Cardinal Mahoney) doing the homily, it lacks that personal touch. I’d hate to think I’m a luddite, but is this going a bit too far?
Jaime,
The new CFD boss is Cardonal Levada, formerly of San Francisco. Although that nomination has also been discussed, I doubt BXVI would chose Mahoney for the CDF, unless Nostradamus was really on to something.
