The newspaper of the Archdiocese of Kansas City The Leaven often has excellent columns especially the ones written by Archbishop Naumann. This month is no exception with his Forty years later, ‘Humanae Vitae’ proves prophetic.
Another excellent article called Abortion in our own backyard starts off with:
KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Following a monthly pro-life Mass, Benedictine Father Matthew Habiger of St. Benedict ’s Abbey in Atchison led a rosary in front of an abortion clinic here.
Afterwards he said something that really surprised Ron Kelsey, the archdiocesan pro-life consultant.
“
He made the observation that, as he looked around from the vantage point of the clinic, you could see church steeples all around, ” said Kelsey.
The clinic was surrounded by faith communities that claimed Christ, but were willing to quietly tolerate the killing of unborn children short distances from their sanctuaries.
It made Kelsey marvel: Where was the outrage?

Woohoo–that’s my diocese!
Maybe too many people in those churches are praying merely for the strength to continue the fight against abortion (as too many in my immediate neighborhood do, and which makes no sense), instead of praying for VICTORY in in the fight against abortion, which seems to me the only sensible thing to pray for.
You have to keep your outrage at least 50 feet from the offending structure, depending on your local ordinances.
The steeples are filled with people who are very ‘tolerant’ now. Even tolerant of evil. And their pastors are ‘pastoral’ and do not want to ‘offend’ anyone or make any one uncomfortable so they are quiet and just preach aobut how God loves you. And the murders continue down the street but the church goers and their pastors go home ‘righteous’.
Well said, Ave Maria, can I quote you on that?!
I love my Archbishop!
Where is the outrage? I’ve wondered the same thing. Some times I’ve thought “If it was 3 year olds being killed at this rate, we’d feel impelled to speak up but, since we can’t see the death, we ignore it.” So, are we just as guilty as the perps?
