A reader sent me a link to a Google Video of Womenpriests at the Call to Action conference from November. If it wasn’t so sad it would be funny. Now I would suggest a drinking game that every time someone at a Call to Action conference uses the word prophetic that you take a drink. I would suggest it if it wasn’t gravely sinful to get that drunk and I think even King Kong with his massive body weight would be pretty tipsy be the end of the conference.
The video also includes Cindy Sheehan who is sitting in the front row. Though not long ago an CSPAN when asked if she was still Catholic she replied no. I think this would be a more honest reply for anybody from CTA. If anybody has doubts about Bishop Bruskewitz excommunication of this group in his diocese should have their doubts lifted by viewing this.
One of the funniest phrases I have heard in reference to advocates of women priest is prophetic obedience. I think it means that in the future there will be women priest so they are being obedient to what will occur then. The women homilist (who wore a cross so big that it would be proportional for Flava Flav from Public Enemy to wear) talked about prophetic obedience and how the "unjust law" of the male only priesthood must be ignored. I will have to try this line of reasoning if I am ever stopped for speeding."But officer, in 100 years the speed limit will be 200, I am actually going to slow." How about prophetic savings. That would be so cool. Just to go into my bank and withdraw an amount of money that would be equal to a couple hundred years worth of interest.
Funny though that my reading of the Old Testament the prophets themselves never acted like this. They were always calling Israel back to the practice of the Faith as handed down. They were always fighting against the culture of the time not being synchronous with it. Pointing out the sins of the country and then usually getting killed for it. I guess the new way of being a prophet has some advantages. Preaching a cultural message in sync with the current culture isn’t very likely to get you persecuted or killed. If the Old Testament prophets had not been so judgmental and had only preached about how it was okay to pray to idols and sacrifice to other gods they would have been left alone. Tolerance instead of talk about covenant curses and equating idol worship with adultery. Modern prophets get invited to conferences instead of being stoned to death. If only God had called up prophets to affirm people instead of calling them to be faithful and to a life of holiness. John the Baptist could have opened up a shop of fashionable camel hair clothing instead of being beheaded for criticising the marriage of Herod.

It is funny in a sick kind of way because they take themselves seriously.
If there can be womynpriests, why can’t there be men-nuns?
Now, you all are saying we have to pay attention to the OT. Before when I cited the OT to prove that Christianity was just as bad as Islam, I was told to ignore it because Jesus’ action made it irrelevant. This situational interpretation is getting everyone confused.
I think it is time for a new bible, where all the BS is cut out, that way we know what exactly you all believe.
You are so cool, Hoodlum.
[Yawn]
Men-stewardesses, men-lesbians, men-stronaughts (astronaughts), cowmen (cowboys), manzier (brazier), man-goddess, etc.
Liberal logic can fun at times.
At least their good for something, eg, humor.
Dino, there is no reason other than the arbitary dictates of the papal dictator 🙂
Out of curiousity, is this call to action have any relationship with Ivan Guberina? If so, I got some material you can use really shoot them down.
Lots and LOTS of grey hair at that conference. Weird isn’t it. A very significant number of those people at the first CA conference are now either in a nursing home or DEAD!
CA is a dying feminist organization. It really met its demise when it was taken over by womens lib activists. It is a total failure and has cost the church many souls.
Did you notice that the ‘presiding priestess’ during that video looks more than a bit like the Junior Senator from New York State?
It sounds like the “prophetic” in “prophetic obedience” means “dis-” in much the same way the “almost” in “almost done” means “not.”
I just can’t see Isaiah or Jeremiah getting the kind of positive press these people get!
In fact, you’re right, one characteristic element of prophetic oracles is the call back to Israel’s traditional worship–it was against those “new fangled” cults that they spoke against.
I don’t recall Isaiah or Jeremiah breaking the law and then claiming “prophetic obedience”.
Flava Flav? You’re killing me! Only at The Curt Jester!
Jeff,
Very well said, indeed.
Hey CJ,
Love the last paragraph. Think I’ll steal if for homily material. Hope you don’t mind. 😉
Maybe the gray hair is for practical reasons–it would be difficult for a young mother to act as priest. hmmm…
What i find sad is that these women so deeply believe in their calling, yet as much as I peer into the future as it relates to the past, it says nothing to me about God changing His design. That said, I find their “prophetic” liturgical language unsettling. “In the Name of our Creator”? And is there any official translation of the Gospel that inserts “Most High” for ‘Lord’? It always seems as if the inclusions and exclusions correspond to an agenda of self-justification.
Perhaps they don’t believe so deeply after all, else why would they insist on justifying themselves by their own words rather than by the Word or the teachings of the Church? (Oh, yes they are “prophetic” in their disobedience—but the prophets, old and new, are PROVEN by the events and words recorded in the New Testament. So, if they are prophets, they shouldn’t have to CHANGE the words!!!)
These people are very confusing to me. Sometimes, they’re even scary. And that’s not because of their gray hair.
Hoody,
(Sorry, but I never cared for Dino).
You say dictator like its a bad thing…
Also Ivan who?
Honestly, I’m haven’t a clue about him.
“I guess the new way of being a prophet has some advantages.”
You don’t have your dissident-speak down yet. That should be “new way of being prophet”. Drop the definite article when exploring the new way of being Church…
‘we felt like we could dance’
Have a ball, but dont come crying to me when you old hippies throw your backs out.
For some reason, their Altar reminds me of a Muffin tin. They really avoid saying ‘Lord’ replacing it with ‘Most High’. They preach ‘Obedience’ in the Sermon but they actually do not do it with the Church, eh? What a loadful of irony.
“If there can be womynpriests, why can’t there be men-nuns?”
Because if we did so, I guess they would break away from the Church and start Men-nunism, where the members are called Men-nunites.
Many feminists complain about this Chauvinistic, Patriarchal Society. Why couldn’t we males protest the ‘Womanization’ (or should I say, ‘Womynization’) of Society?
Are we in a World where the ‘Voice of Males’ are no longer heeded? Are we in a Society where the opinion of us males are just snubbed away?
Just to clarify things, someone should ask the womenpriests “Who is the Lord your God?” If they avoid the question or reword it, or answer in some vague he/she/it way, run, run far!!
As to the male extinction agenda, did you see the news article about the Komodo dragon’s “virgin birth”? (Jeff, you’re slipping. Did I actually read a bit of news before you did? :))
The wording of it is odd, the ramifications are scary, scientifically, (those who like to play God are all excited) and the question “will males be necessary in the future?” is actually being asked!
Maranatha!
Citing the Blessed Mother makes most of the womynpriests I know see red but, during this season especially, I always wonder: What higher honor can you have than “our nature’s solitary boast”? They deny that this priesthood charade has anything to do with power but what they’re doing is yelling at me so loud I can’t hear what they’re saying.
For myself, the Magnificat, today’s reading, says it all. For both men & women, the only way to heaven is through the low door not by trying to chisel out your own door & then painting “Prophetic” over it.
Count the male pronouns in the Magnificat. I wonder what’s their version?
The “Roman Catholic Women Priests” group is utterly off the wall and out of the Barque. But, one of the repeated above arguments doesn’t hold any water. There _are_ men religious, and even men cloistered religious. So the whole chatter about “man-nuns” only demonstrates confusion on the part of the commenter.
What a great video! Where have I been? I am awed by this wonderful witness! No banal robotic movements nor monotonal (probably overslept) pablum of the male clergy. Let’s get this post conciliar party started. Out with the old, in with the new. Mover over or Move on. It’s great to be a Catholic.
