Ignatius Insight has a partial chapter from Fr. Thomas Dubay’s Fire Within: St. Teresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross, and the Gospel-On Prayer This is one of my favorite books and I owe a great debt of gratitude to Fr. Dubay for introducing me to the Carmelites first through his EWTN show on St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross and for his excellent book on them Fire Within
Remember act now and you can also get the Dark Night of the Soul Night Light.

You wrong for that…
Fr. Philip, OP
For the longest time, the dollar store near us sold plastic Jesus and Mary night lights. Mary was blue, and Jesus came in pink or white. The sacristan at our church bought one and put it in the sacristy–the priest was a little upset. I wouldn’t mind having a night light like your St. John one, though!
JaneC,
that reminds me of that song:
‘I don’t care if it rains or freezes
As long as I’ve got my plastic Jesus
Glued to the dashboard of my car
You can buy Him phosphorescent
Glows in the dark, He’s pink and pleasant
Take Him with you when you’re travelling far.’
As an aside, does this nightlight work without batteries? Is there a non-electric version?
Dear Father,
I want to thank God very much for the grace he bestow on you and thank you also for putting yourself at the service of God.
