I was unable to to go to my normal parish today since I needed to go to a later Mass. The parish I went to I normally avoid even though it is much closer to home because of the triple folk guitar assault set on stun and that they have decided the Agnus Dei doesn’t need the part about "taking away the sins of the world."
This parish doesn’t have somebody ringing some chimes during the consecration, though of course that is totally optional. But today as the priest raised the host and said the words of consecration somebody’s cell phone went off at that exact moment. Luckily the ring tone was almost even traditional sounding and wasn’t too at odds. The same thing happened at the consecration of the Precious Blood, though this time the owner of the cell phone was much quicker to shut it off.

In our parish, they make an announcement asking everyone to silence their cell phones and pagers…but we still get one going off sometimes.
I don’t understand why people bring them into mass at all. I used to bring mine and put it on vibrate but then I realized there was no point…so I leave it in the car now.
I may understand it happening to the first person, but when a second one sounds off that is inexcusable.
I was at a quiet early morning Tridentine mass once and as the priest was slowing saying the prayers at the foot of the altar, HIS cell phone went off.
I remember once during a homily on vocations, the priest said something to the effect, “You never know when God may be calling you.” Just then, someone a few pews directly in front of him, a cell phone went off. Without missing a beat, he said, “That could be Him right there!”
Big Tex, the exact same thing happened when I was at Mass two weeks ago.
“Hello, this is God calling. Yes, who did you expect? Pay attention to the miracle before your eyes, please. Shalom.”
Once our Priest was out of town, a very, very elderly Priest, who looked like the sternest guy you’d ever want to meet was filling in. Early in the Mass a cell phone went off and the ringtone was the theme music from the Exorcist.
I was at a nearby Benedictine Abbey the other day for Vespers when someone’s (who apparently doesn’t hang around the Abbey much) cell phone went off with a rock song (it was something totally inappropriate!) for their ringer while the Abbot was singing the Our Father. Ummmm… somewhat disturbing. I feel sorry for the person though because there weren’t many visitors there and it was quite obvious who’s phone had gone off.
