Rev. Rouville Fisher, a priest of the Diocese of St. Augustine, has been
formally excommunicated by Bishop Victor Galeone. Father Fisher was excommunicated because he has publicly joined the “Rent a Priest” organization and is offering his priestly services outside of, and apart from the Diocese of St.Augustine, and in violation of the directives of the Bishop. The faithful are advised that any knowing support of or participation in the schismatic ministry of Father Fisher is gravely sinful.

More reasons to love my own Bishop. I don’t know any of the details of this case other than that he was a Deacon just five years ago and was probably a late vocation priest judging by his pictures.

Wow! a bishop with a spine.
They should make him a Cardinal.
Or Inquisitor. Or Both.
Are there any priestesses in his diocese?
If they should send all the ‘priestesses’ there, that way we wouldn’t have a problem.
Forgive my ignorance, but what is the “Rent a Priest” organization? Why was this man excommunicated and not the fake “women priests” that pretended to be ordained in a boat and are now offering “masses”?
Not that I’m disagreeing with the Bishop’s decision at all, I’m just curious.
Veronica,
Its so that cruise ships can have priests on board.
Rent-a-Priests, as I understand it, are mainly priests that bailed and got married who rent themselves out mainly to perform invalid marriages (e.g., between divorced persons who don’t have annulments).
Publius has it right. In addition, the organization is run by a woman whose intention was to use it to push for married priests and priestesses.

A Bishop with a spine – I don’t think so – sounds more like a man who wants to play God. The Catholic church is no longer administered under God’s law – but opressed by man’s law – no wonder the pews are empty on Sunday and so many parishes falling apart – these men should be ashamed – they preach – but it would seem they need guidance of their own.
The article, “USCCB screening priests on cruise ships” leads readers into thinking that a married priest conducting Mass is wrong without knowing the Catholic denomination he’s from. The article also assumes he’s being deceptive. Priest from the “Old Catholic” line- Independent & Reformed movements are valid priests recognized by the Vatican. Not all priests saying Mass need be Roman Catholic. Old Catholic/Independent Catholic & Reformed Catholic priests celebrate the Mass using the Roman Liturgy. There’s no deception other than the Vatican not sharing that information or the fact that there are married Roman Catholic priests. Although most Roman Catholic priests are not aware either… check the facts before condemning others. Act out of Love as Jesus would. Review the Vatican Document here named DOMINUS IESUS…this document shows how while Old Catholic priests do not report to the Vatican they are recognized by the Vatican. Remember Jesus’s dying wish…”that they may all be one”.
Listed below- Dominus Iesus:
At the Vatican on 16 June, 2000 Pope John Paul II ratified and ordered the publication of Dominus Iesus. This Declaration of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith was signed and published by Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI) in August of the same year.
In this Declaration, the Roman Catholic Church recognizes the validity of Orders and Sacraments of other Catholic denominations.
“These Churches which, while not existing in perfect communion with the (Roman) Catholic Church, remain united to her by means of the closest bonds, that is, by apostolic succession and a valid Eucharist, and are true particular Churches.”
“Therefore, these separated Churches and communities as such…have by no means been deprived of significance and importance in the mystery of salvation. For the spirit of Christ has not refrained from using them as means of salvation which derive their efficacy from the very fullness of grace and truth entrusted to the Catholic Church.” IV Unicity and Unity of the Church, 17
God Bless you all… Joseph+
