MercatorNet has a wide-ranging piece up on blogs, blog addiction, and the wide ranging subject of blogs. I find the fact that so many people now have blogs to be rather a good thing. To quote G.K. Chesterton.
This paper exists to insist on the rights of man; on possession st hat are of much more political importance than the principle of one an one vote. I am in favour of one man one house, one man one field; nay I have even advanced the paradox of one man one wife. But I am aalmost tempted to add the more ideal fancy of one man one magazine . . . to say that every citizen ought to have a weekly paper of this sort to splash about in . . . this kind of scrap book to keep him quiet.*
The addictive quality of blogging has been something much written about. In my over four years of bloggers I have seen many who have sworn off the blogosphere come back once again. I once wrote a post on blogger addiction New Betty Ford Center opening.

“Blogs are basically a form of on-line diaries where people post whatever they want to let the world know how they feel.” I didn’t get past that part. The time when “on-line diary” was a generally accurate description of a blog passed about four years ago, don’t you think? My blog… yours… Power Line… Michelle Malkin… Catholic and Enjoying It, The Corner… these are “on-line diaries”?
why would any one ever post a ‘diary’ on the internet? Taht would be like having the whole globe as your little sister.

The idea, really, was to post a journal of websites visited, I think. The diary of a websurfer. That makes more sense than a ‘dear diary’ utility.
My blog is basically a diary. Mostly because there’s a reason to write about what’s going on in my head if people are going to read it. I can’t keep a paper journal, I get bored with it. And writing is theaputic.
I’m new to blogging. Right after I set up my blog and did my first post I had a tremendous feeling of satisfaction. Probably because blogging gives a person the chance to ‘tell their story’. My love for St. Therese and her little way is so great that the chance to share my devotion to her with others is too good to pass up.
Hey, that article has a link to your blog. The word used is ‘punditry’, preceded by amateur.
I guess you knew that already.
