This meeting of Bono and the Pope was reported in Rolling Stone a few years back. If I remember correctly, Bono was campaigning for debt cancellation of third world countries, which the Vatican had long been in support of. In the article, Bono did mention that the Holy Father tried on Bono’s famous fly shades. However, photographs were not allowed to be released. This is the first time that they’ve been seen round the world.
There is an interview with Bono which touches upon this meeting. I was pleasantly surprised at many of Bono’s answers. He may not be 100% on board (alas…but to be expected) with everything, but some of his answers are quite illuminating.

Yeah, but JPII has Bono’s shades on and I’ll bet Bono saved them — out celeb-ing a celeb as only a pope can!
With all that white glaring right under his nose, I’m surprised that Papa doesn’t apply those black smears under his eyes like football players do.
