The video of the speech mentioned below is available here. Upon listening to what he said I found his speech to be both good and prudent. It wasn’t aimed as an attack on the people in the schools, but was much more general on the subject of selfishness and true joy. Warning: The comments from the audience contain foul language at times, though they are quite instructive. Especially silly was one person calling him a bigot. Any moral criticism is not considered bigotry.

Encouraging a Catholic college graduates not to be selfish is called “bigotry” by the graduates?
What are Catholic universities going to be teaching MY children?
Wow! A graduate of a Catholic University clearly speaking out on Catholic teachings is considered ‘intolerant’ and a ‘bigot’ by other students at that school. Looks to me that the school administration needs a significant effort to improve their curriculum, especially regarding moral theology.
A college to add to my “Don’t Send Kids To” list.
clearly the school does a great job informing the students about actual Catholic teachings. I think I saw, what, 3 people stand up and applaud.
For those of you who would say that a college graduation is a bad forum for calling people to repent of their sins (and enumerating their sins), then you’d have to condemn Mother Theresa along with this guy. She spoke at some Ivy league college and said a lot of the same things this guy did. only she got applause.
I say, this guy’s got more guts than I do. It makes me ashamed of myself because I know I would have wimped out.
The birth control pill is really a kind of eucharist for some people. Or anti-eucharist rather.
Whoa Billy!
That last statement may be more profound than you think. Maybe we should all reflect on the implications of this magnanimous claim.
Indeed, when we recieve the Eucharist, we are open to the Holy Spirit “impregnating” us with Divine Love – Jesus Christ – as the Body of Christ, the Church, considers herself a female entity, and now we have all of the Theology of the Body connotations coming into play.
The pill is likewise ingested orally by a woman yet denies the Gift of God and renders herself infertile.
Wow. “Anti-Eucharist”, although somewhat harsh, may be quite fitting.
Profound indeed.
Profound, indeed.
I would contrast eucharistic martyrs who DIE defending Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament and, thus, enter into Eternal Glory, VERSUS birth control advocates who KILL(abortifacient nature of the Pill) and, thus, place their own souls in dire peril.
Courageous, yes, but unfortunately he could’ve used some classes on public speaking. It was almost painful to see hear him struggle through some of his speech. Impassionate speaking, very abstract, and shaky in presentation.
At least his comments hat more wisdom than those who just shouted thoughtlessly.
