A POPULAR school principal has been suspended by the Catholic Church for getting remarried.
Paul Cronin was ordered out of the school when he legally remarried but failed to receive an annulment from the church for his first marriage.
He was suspended from Holy Family Catholic Primary School at Skennars Head on the Far North Coast for what the Catholic Education Office (CEO) described as his "marital status in the eyes of the Catholic Church".
The decision, announced last week, has angered parents, who held a crisis meeting yesterday in an attempt to get Mr Cronin reinstated.
Mr Cronin couldn’t be contacted yesterday but his new wife, Kerryn, said from their home: "I obviously have to respect the position he’s in. He appreciates the support he has received but I probably shouldn’t say anything until he’s ready to do so."
Mr Cronin has two children from his previous marriage, a boy and a girl.
Parent Julie Earl said the school community had been kept in the dark.
"It is very disappointing," she said. "He is considered an excellent leader."
Why is it that every time someone get’s sacked from a Catholic school they are always a popular teacher? Why aren’t we sacking unpopular ones? As far as being an excellent leader goes, I thought part of leadership was leading by example?

Ironically, the school is named “Holy Family.”
Horror of horrors! A Catholic principal at a Catholic primary school is actually being expected to adhere to basic Catholic principles and not openly live in adultery! Death camps can’t be far behind.
Why is it that every time someone get’s sacked from a Catholic school they are always a popular teacher?
Two reasons:
1) No one would make a stink about an unpopular teacher being sacked (except the teacher himself/herself).
2) If the newspapers did get wind of it, it wouldn’t fit into their “evil Church fires popular teacher” paradigm.
The issue is for parents, many of whom are from irregular marriage situations, “I am doing nothing wrong . how can the bishop say that the teacher is doing anything wrong? If he is doing wrong- so am I! I just do not want to look at the reality that I am doing something morally wrong.” Americans are mostly poor at brutal honesty. So expect more of the same pard!! Denial!!
What’s an annulment?
Just kidding, but I’ll bet there are a lot of Catholics who don’t know. Many who do know what an annulment is don’t think getting one is terribly important — until they want to get remarried in a particularly pretty church.
A priest I know has found this small blessing in his serving in an ugly church: Brides-to-be, shopping around for a photogenic churches, seldom choose his church. They want a lovely Victorian-era look to their wedding (you know, back in the days when wedding couples were virgins).
It’s important to look unadulterous in photographs.
That makes it “truth” in Reality T.V. America.
Cacciaguida and I were married in a chapel at our college, which was permitted because it was on the diocese’s list of approved sites. If it hadn’t been, I suppose we’d have gotten married in St. Mary’s. That’s a very handsome church, although our little party would have looked pretty meager in its vast nave.
What’s a “crisis meeting”? Do they have those when bad theology is being taught?
